which will eventually serve over
600.000 customers in a broad

MARC I is the First National's
designation for their new Mag
netically Activated Recording
Computer system
Warren C. Hume, president of
IBM's data processing division,
was guest speaker at a recep
tion following the MARC I dedi
cation for more than 60 Portland
civic officials and business and
industry leaders from Portland.
The IBM computer and the
IBM 1401-1412 bank data pro
cessing combination are com
ponent parts of the MARC I
system.
MARC I will perform a myriad
of banking chores including the
handling of regular checking ac
counts for 220,000 First National
Bank customers and instalment
credit loan accounting for 70,000
customers. In addition, the sys
tem is scheduled to conduct long
and short form deposit analysis,
process trust accounts, provide
management reports and print
the Bank's daily transaction
ledger and customer statements
each month.
