Music Maker Goal
Of Student Contest
lleppner high school students
are putting on a fund raising
drive to raise money to purchase
a stereo set and records for the
school dances.
Competition Is being carried on
for the period of Oct. 16 through
26, with freshmen and seniors
competinn with Juniors and soph
omores. The winning classes will
bo announced at the Home
coming dance, Oct. 27.
"The helD and cooperation of
everyone Is needed to make this
drive a success," members oi
ittee stated. They said
that it was felt better attendance
would result at school dances if
xttrr music could be supplied.
Thev sutrcested that members of
the public give students as many
Jobs as possible during mis ume
to help them earn money to con
tribute to their team for the purpose.

muddy field Friday afternoon.

touchdown and galloped 15 for
his team's fourth touchdown.

Regional Meet
Four students of Heppner high
school attended the regional 1
conference of the Student Council
association of Oregon at Baker
Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 16-17.
They heard outstanding edu
cators and participated In dls
(Mission of student affairs with
other students from all over
Eastern Oregon.
"The Code of Conduct" was tha
theme of the meeting. Dr. Frank
Bennett, president of Eastern
Oreeon Colleee at La Grande,
developed the theme in ms Key
note address Monday morning.
This was followed by group dis
cussions in the afternoon.
Students were entertained at
a banquet Monday night and a
dance later.
Tuesdav. John Turbyne, prin
cipal of McLaughlin high school
at Mllton Freewater, spoke on
"What Can We Do In Our School
to Show Our Pride In Our
Country." This was followed by
group discussions. Conference
evaluation was presented by
Gerald Van Pool, Washington,
D. C, who is assistant executive
secretary of the National Assoc
iation of Student Councils for
the National Association of Sec
ondary School Principals. Van
Pool's address ended the con
ference. Representing the stadent coun
cil from Heppner high school at
the meeting were Judy Schmidt,
student body treasurer; Mike
Healy, president of the senior
class; Jennifer Brlndle and Bill
Sherman, student council mem
bers. They were accompanied by
Gordon Pratt, high school prin
cipal.

Starting October 23 In a total
of 65 radio stations in the PP&L
system in parts of six states,
the series will be broadcast by
stations KKID and KUMA in Pen
dleton, and KOHU in Hermiston.
The first of 2 stories scheduled
locally is about the Pendleton
Round-Up the beginning of this
famous annual rodeo and how
Pendleton became the roundup
