gold which were carried out with
gold-trimmed baskets of yellow
chrysanthemums in the hall. Her
f oeme song, "Trees,' was played
by Jeanne Slewert at the piano,
Marie Van Marter, cousin of
Shannon, placed the crown on
her head as the highlight of the

After the installation cere
monies, an addendum honoring
the new worthy advisor was pre
sented in the theme "sunflower"
by Beverly Blake, Ginger Spring
er, Kathy Kay, Sherri Olson,
Brenda Young, Diane Sehaffitz,
Frances MeLeod, with Sandra
Harshman as organist and Ginny
Turner and Kathy Melby soloists.
The reception followed In the
dining room with Mrs. La Verne
Van Marter and Mrs. Gene Hall
in charge. Mrs. Archie Ball and
Mrs. Stevens poured at the tea
table. The table continued color
scheme with a yellow and gold
chrysanthemum centerpiece and
yellow candles.

Club Attends Civil
Defense Meeting
Members of the Heppner
Mother s club gathered at the
home of Mrs. Rod Murray Mon
day evening, men went in a
body to the county Civil Defense
meeting at the courthouse, hear
ing In detail the preparedness
necessary for home and school
shelters In case of possible
enemy attack.
In discussions later, the group
felt a definite need, In relation
to civil defense, that a short
course be offered mothers in this
area in first aid training and
home nursing.
Convening again for a short
business meeting, plans were an
nounced for the November meet
ing at the home of Mrs. Charles
Knox, with a program on pillow
making being planned.
Mrs. Wes Sherman was a guest
of the evenlne.
A social hour closed the meet
ing, with refreshments served by
Mrs. Murray, assisted by Mrs.
Roice Fulleton.
