After Summer Wedding
Whiting Field Chapel. U. S.
Naval Auxiliary Air Station, Mil-
ton, Florida was the setting for
the wedding or Mi.ss Barbara
Edith Baker, Medford, to James
Henderson Hayes, Heppner, En
sign, United States Navy. The
ceremony was performed Friday,
June 30, with Commander Mil
ton U. Ray. Chaplain, officiating.
The bride Is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. G. Wesley Baker, Grif-

The bride wore a white sheath
dress with shoulder length veil,
and carried a bouquet of white
carnations. She was escorted to
the altar by her brother, Jerry
Eaker. in the absence of her fa
ther who was unable to be pres
ent.
Mrs. Kay Harmon, Charleston,
S. C, sorority sister of the bride
was matron of honor. She wore
a PinK sneatn uress wun matcn
ing accessories and carried white
carnations.
Knsipn. Warner Butler, Louis
ville, Kentucky,, served as best
man.
For her daughter's wedding
Mrs. Baker wore a blue and white
sheath dress with white acces
sories and a corsage of white
carnations.
The bride graduated from Ash
land high school in the class
of '56 and was a member of the
National Honor Society. She
graduated from Oregon State
College in 1960 with a degree
in Business Education, and
taught this past year in the
John Marshall high school in
Portland.
Ensign Hayes graduated from
Heppner high school In the class
of '55, and from Oregon State
College In I960 with a degree in
Agriculture. He entered the Navy
in Sept. and is presently a stu
icnt pilot flying T-28 aircraft.
The newlyweds are now at
home on nivervlew Road, Pensa
cola, Florida.

a patio barbecue on Tuesday
evening last week in honor of
the foreign exchange student
Miss Marie von Roesgen of Lux
embourg. Also a guest of Mr.
and Mrs. Swanson's on this even
ing was Father Beard of Heppner.
Marie is of Catholic denom
ination and stated that she had
visited few Catholic families
since her arrival in the United
States.
Mr. and Mrs. Orville Smith and
daughter. Jenny, Seattle, visited
in town a few days the first of
the week. Jenny will stay with
the Merritt Gray family and at
tend school here.
