Producer Referendum
Backs Milk Price
4.751 Milk producers in area No. 8
recently voted down a referen
dum to wipe out the price es
tabllshed in June under the new
producer milk stabilization pro
gram. This means the $5.80 price
per hundred weight of 4 per
cent milk established will con
tinue in effect in Umatilla, Mor
row, Grant, Gilliam, Sherman
and Wheeler counties.
The vote was 25 to 4.
The price was challenged when
Hager's Dairy, Heppner said they
could not sell the milk for
enough to pay for the price es
tablished by the milk stabiliza
tion administrator. Since that
time Hager's has quit purchas
ing milk and is now acting as
contracted haulers for area dairy
men, who have organized to sell
their own milk.
They said they were unable to
get the price set by the milk
stabilization administrator and
are selling to an out-of-state
market for $5.25 per hundred
weight.

its 96th annual run Friday, Sept.
at 10 a. m. with many new
attractions added to the long list
of traditional events that bring
n estimated 300.000 persons to
the 172-acre grounds yearly.

the night stage revue, which will
have performances at 6:15 and
8:15 p. m. every day except Sept.
3 when performances are at 2:30
and 3:15 p. m. Appearing with
Day will be Betty Johnson, a

Every day except Sunday the
finest thoroughbred horses from
the Northwest will go postward
at 1 p. m. in quest of a record
$50,000 in purses. Ten races will
be run daily, including at least
