eighth birthday on Wednesday,
The girls enjoyed a noon pic
nic lunch topped with ice cream
cones after tne gur opening
which added excitement.
The afternoon continued with
games and ended with a swim
mine party at the pool.

Gardners Back Home
From Elks Conclave
Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Gardner
and son Leroy returned Friday
from a trip to the national Elks
convention at Miami, Fla.
Gardner reports that William
A. Wall was elected as grand
exalted ruler. Wall Is a business
man from Miami Beach, Fla.
There were 48 exal'.ed rulers from
the 51 Elks Lodges In the state
of Oregon at the national con
vention. In addition to the state
president.
Bill Brown was appointed dis
trict deputy for this area, ana
Bcrnle Urlie and Frank Hlse were
re appointed to their former po
sltlons.
They began their trip July 5
when Mr. and Mrs. Jack van
Winkle took them to Portland.
They were met there by Mr. and
Mrs. Bud Collins ol Hood Klver.
Flying by Jet from Portland to
Chicago, they changed planes
and flew on to Miami by Jet
with Mr. and Mrs. James Rogers
of Pendleton, total flying time
of 5'-i hours.
The Gardners spent two days
sightseeing In and around Miami
and returned by way of Shreve
port, La., stopping there for a
4 -day visit with friends. From
there they continued on to Dal
las, Texas, San Francisco and on
to Portland. After a 2-day stay
In Portland they were met there
by Bud Collins and taken to
Hood River where Mr. and Mrs.
Van Winkle picked them up for
the trip home.

Installed Sunday
Hope and Valby Lutheran
churches were honored by the
presence of Dr. and Mrs. H. L.
Foss of Seattle on Sunday. Dr.
Foss is the president of the North
Pacific district of the American
Lutheran church. The visit was
for the purpose of officially In
stalling Rev. Kenneth J. Robin
son as pastor of Hope and Valby.
Following the service at Valby
a coffee hour was given and
members at Hope remained afte
the service for a potluck supper.
Dr. Foss was Impressed by the
work which has been done by the
two congregations which are a
part of the more than 210
churches in the district of 114
437 baptized members. The North
Pacific district covers nearly
three-quarters of a million
square miles and includes the
states of Oregon, Washington
and Alaska. Many churches In
Idaho are also included.
