and well-furnished.
County - owned, Pioneer Memorial
Hospital has 49 beds on two floors.
Its original equipment, valued at
$90,000, was purchased from popular
subscription. Funds for construction
of the building came from the Hill
Burton Act and popular subscription.
In 1955 an addition brought capacity
from the original 29 beds to 49. Some
20 of these beds are used for Nursing
Home patients.
The hospital is on land donated by
Garnet Barratt, County Judge at the
time of construction. Assets are now
$600,000 with no indebtedness. On
the staff are six doctors and courtesy
staff of four specialists. Its 42 em
ployees are headed by Administrator
Will O'Hara, and it is governed by
a board of trustees. Equipment and
plant are in excellent condition.
Hospital services include: Medical,
Surgical, Maternity, Pediatric, X-ray,
Laboratory, Outpatient and Emergen
cy service 24 hours per day.
