The reception followed In the
dining room with Mr. LaVerne
Kelthiey pouring the punch.
Other on the committee were
Mr. Mike Saltng. Mr. Paul
Jones, and Mr. Lewla Halvor
sen. The colors are blue and white
which was carried out In the
centerpiece on the table.
Sharon has chosen for her
term of office the motto. "Love
is the fulfillment of all law."

Sewing Club
The Wednesday afternoon
Sowing Club were guesu at the
home of Mrs. Jack Bedford for
their last meeting.
After an afternoon of sewing
and knitting, the hostess served
refreshments to members: Mrs.
p. V. Mahoney, Mrs. Ray Fergu
son. Mrs. Lowell Cribble. Mrs.
Claude Graham. Mrs. Ed Schaf
fltz. Mrs. Clint Mcuarrie. and a
guest. Mrs. Harlan McCurdy, Jr.

New Civic League
President for 1961
On Monday evening the Civic
League held their regular meet
ing at the home of Mr. David
Eckman.
The main business of the
meeting was the election of of
ficers and kindergarten board
members for the new year. Of
ficers elected were president.
Mrs. Phil Blaknev: vice president,
Mrs. Haskell Sharrard; secretary-
treasurer, Mrs. Robert Abrams;
hoard members. Mrs. Jimmy
Prock. Mrs. Don Bennett, and Mrs.
Matt Hushes who also Is treas-
urer of the kindergarten.
Mrs. Gene Pierce showed a
March of Dimes film and en
listed several mothers for the
Mother's March set for Jan. 31.
Family Night
At Methodist Church
The Methodist church school
teachers will be ..ostesses to an
all-church Family Night potluck
suDDer and fellowship at the
church, Sunday evening, January
22, beginning at 6:00. This Is
the first of a series or rellowsnip
mpetinps to be held monthly
during the winter and spring.
The choir will plan the February
meeting.
All members and friends of the
church are Invited to attend and
brine the entire family. A varied
program will follow the suppers,
this month a film, "inaia, wy
Country" will be shown.

The First National Bank held
a breakfast Mondy at the Wag
onwheel a the concluding phase
of a ChrUtma Club contest held
t th Hank this vear.
The bank employee were dl
fi.i.i into two team, one headed
by Roy F-rlckson and the other by
J.tck Bedford. The contest lasted
for two month. November and
December. 1900. with the team
trying for the most Christmas
Club subscriber.
The team led by Erlckson lost
to the Bedford team so treated
them to breakfast Monday
morning.

Mr. and Mr. Harry F. Baker
of Lecsburg. Virginia, announce
the engagement of their daugh
ter, Shirley Lou to SP4 Lcland
C. Proffltt. son of Mr. and Mrs.
Arnel Lane of Heppner.
Mr. Proffltt Is a graduate of
Heppner High achol In the class
of I9r8. He enlisted In the Army
in October of that year and Is
presently stationed at Fort Bel
voir, Virginia.
The young couple have plan
ned a March wedding.
Brian Hughes Has
Eighth Birthday
The Tom Hughes home was
the scene of a birthday party
for Brian on his eighth birthday
Wednesday after school.
Brian's guests were: Terry
Hughes, Jim McLachlan. Rory
Stillman, Ronny Sherman, Den
zil Robbins, Cecil Berry. Dave
and Mike Hughes.
The bovs had races for prizes
and later had refreshments of
cake, ice cream, and lemonalde.

Linda Heath had a group of
friends In to help her celebrate
her eleventh birthday last Wed
nesday evening.

watched TV, and had Ice cream
and cake for refreshments.
Linda's guests were: Peggy
and Billy Snyder, Diana Jack
son, Gladys Van Houte, Randy
Stillman, and Larry Heath.
Visiting the David Eckman
family last week were his bro
ther and family, Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas Eckman, on their way
to their new home In Stockton,
California from Germany where
he was stationed with the Army
and Is now retired after 24 years
service.
Mrs. Herman Blettell will leave
Friday for a week's visit with
her daughter and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Harry C. Snider, in Glenn's
Ferry, Idaho where Mr. Snider
is stationed with the Air Force.
