EDITOR
To the Editor:
I noticed a story In Thursday's
papers that there is a new com
plaint at the state fair that the
cattle entered there by Senator
Wayne Morse are causing trouble
because of their constant bellow
ing. It seems to me that probably
the cattle come by It honestly
as their owner Is usually bellow
ing most of the time, too.

pound of dry hay.
A hpef steer eats about 12
pounds of hay In gaining one
pound or weight, mereiore one
nminri of caln for the steer re
quires 1.3C8 gallons of water. But
live gain on a steer is oniy
per cent marketable beef which
means that 2,206 gallons of water
Is needed to produce 1 pound of
hntrhpr shon beef. This is more
than 44 fifty-gallon oil drums
of water.
Assumlne that the family of
four Is served a beef pot roast
weighing 3',i pounds we end up
with the figure of 7,721 gallons
of water to produce the roast.
These figures don't taKe into

drank, the water in the stock

water at the slaughter house, and
the drinking fountain in the
butcher shop.
