is for the prime purpose of
youngsters winning ribbons and
premium money. That Is not the
aim of 4 II club work.
The 41! protrram has long em
phasized projects, but these pro
jects are not the sum goal. En
couraging 4 11 club members to
heln some other person, to share
successes and disappointments,
ovs and sorrows, all lead to mut
ual understanding and develop
Ine the philosophy of an abun
dant life. When good sportsman-
hln is promoted among boys
and girls we are adding to their
ppreciatlon of spiritual values.
We are making bettor future citizens.
4 H work has long advocated
the "Demonstration as a means
of developing confidence and
poise in a youngster."
This past club year I have con
centrated on the 4-H demonstrat
ion program with the home ec
onomics 4-H clubs. I visited each
club presenting to the members
the mechanics of making up a
demonstration outline and how
to present it before an audience.
We are seeing results of these
contacts. Seventeen 4-H girls
have signed up to give a demon
stration at our county fair In
Heppner, August 23-26.
Mrs Homer Hager, Heppner
home economics Instructor, and
I met with several of them on
August 12 at the Heppner fair
pavilion to hear them in a trial
run before the fair.
Mr nnd Mrs Vcrn Mel arty
drove to Long Creek Saturday
on business.
Mr and Mrs Fred Cassner left
Friday morning for Portland as
Mrs Gassner I one of the Judges
for the Horse Show being held
there.
Mr and Mrs Roy Ariel Cork.
known as Barney, left Portland
Friday morning for Rochester,
Minnesota, to enter the Mayo
Clinic, for treatment for his eye.
