Mrs Helen Cox. Heppner vis
ited with me about an Idea she
had to increase Interest In the
growing of flowers and learning
simple flower arrangements tor
more exhibits at fair time,
f snent a most Interesting
evening with Mrs Cox viewing
her garage-converted shop where
she had gathered an enviable
array of all types of vases, bas
kets, and florist materials. If
you have seen any of her beaut
iful flower arrangements you
know that here Is a woman that
surely developed a hobby close
to professionalism.
It was suggested that we run
a series of "Flower Talks" In
thP loeal oarjer to give people
an idea of how simple It is to
enjoy the growing and arranging
of flowers. Look for the first
one that appears elsewhere in
this paper.
I asked this veteran flower
lover why this "crusade for
flowers"?
"I've been trying to convince
people for years that the beauty
of flowers doesn't only belong
to people with weaitn inai u
can be enjoyed by anyone that
hns a little Plot OI grouna anu
a packet of flower seeds."
About four years ago, mm o
became a Campfire Girl leader
and promptly proceeded to make
flower lovers of these little miss
es. They also had the idea that
they could never grow and ar
range flowers like they saw in
magazines and books. Her suc
cess with these girls was noted
by the many flower exhibits
they showed at fair time.
If you'll watch the show win
