Brood sows require very little
special care during gestation.
However, this care can have a
tremendous influence on the pro
fit in a swine operation.
The essential requirements
are proper sanitation, a fortified
ration that will build the unborn
pigs without needlessly fatten
ing the sow, clean water, shelter
against the weather, pasture for
exercise. Pasture should be clean
and on well drained soil.
Brood sows should be kept
separate from other hogs and
livestock to prevent injury whe
ther on pasture or not.
Farrowing stalls should be
cleaned thoroughly and scrub
bed with a disinfectant solution.
This is best done soon after a
sow and litter are removed ra
ther than just before a clean
sow is placed in the stall.
About five days before farrow
ing the sow should be washed
with soap and water and then
scrubbed with disinfectant be
fore placing her in the pen. Han

wondering if he isn't splitting
his chances of getting the nom

Friday, he explained to 300 fel

being wasted, mostly for foreign
aid, by Republican Senators in
collusion with conservative Dem

many of their off-side plays that
the Republican officials just
couldn't see.
Now many of the 300 are won

job (they are profoundly serious)

chair.
