(1) CROSSING MORROW COUNTY The famed Oregon Cavalcade
Wagon Train is making its way down highway 30 near its Tues
day night stop at Boardman. The Morrow county Fair and Rodeo
royal court met the train near the county line and rode with
the group.

photo shows the old horse tied to one of the wagons, proof that
the whole thing wasn't a "put up Job". Just who tied the horse
to the wagon however, wasn't determined.
(6) TH HANGING At the conclusion of the mock trial held on a
special platform on the Boardman school grounds, came the
"hanging". Watching Justice performed are the members of the
handpicked Jury, "Judge" Buster Rands, and the prosecutor, dis
trict attorney Robert Abrams of Heppner. far left. Nearly 2500
persons visited the wagon during the afternoon and evening and
between 800 and 900 enjoyed the baked steelhoad dinner served
to the crowd after the trial and program.
(3) THE ARREST Sheriff C J D Bauman and his posse are shown
stopping the train just outside of Boardman to arrest the "villain"
who stole the valuable nag. The mounted sheriff was resplendent
in black curly chaps, badge and shootin' iron. The hoss thief,
not shown in this picture, was later handcuffed for safety.

Rev Harold Gilliam of Cheney,
Wash has been called as pastor
of the Nazarene church. He and
Mrs Gilliam and three daugh
ters, Leah, 16; Kay, 12 and
Vickey, 6 moved into the parson
age Friday of last week. He was
the minister here 6 years ago
and has been pastor at Juiletta,
Idaho.
Mrs Iver Olson a missionary
from Pague, Korea and her son,
Sven a college student at Los
Angeles and Mrs Joe Mekko, a
missionary from Japan and her
three children, had charge of the
services at the Baptist church
Sunday morning. They told of
the work In the field there. In
the evening Rev and Mrs Smith
from the Christian church In
Lexington; Rev and Mrs Harold
Gilliam of the Nazarene church;
Mrs Iver Olson and Mrs Bill
Collier and children at Trout
Lake, Wash assisted with the
services. Mrs Olson showed
slides on missionary work. A pot
luck dinner was served on the
lawn at the Monetta Aldrlch
home also, supper was served
there in the evening.
Mr and Mrs Alvln MaCabe and
son, Ashley, are visiting relatives
in Salem this week. They will
also go to the coast where they
will visit Ernest McCabe at Bay
City.'
The public library board held
a meeting Monday afternoon.
The dates set for "Know Your
Library Week" was set for Sept
28, 29, 30 and Oct 1.
Mr and Mrs Alfred Nelson and
family are in Portland this week.
Shlrlee, McGreer spent Sunday
with relatives in John Day.
Mr and Mrs Pete Cannon are
the parents of a daughter, Ar
lone Marie, born Aug 7 in the
Pioneer Memorial hospital.
Weight 6 lb and 11 oz. Mrs Ada
Cannon of Heppner and Mrs
Echo Palmateer of lone are the
grandparents.
Mrs Ruby Nichols went home
with Mrs Bill Collier and child
ren to Trout Lake, Wash Sun
day. They also stopped in Mad
ras to visit the John Hatfields.
Mr and Mrs Stuert Aldrich and
son are visiting his mother, Mrs
Monetta Aldrlch.

sen. A social hour was held after

meeting Thursday evening of
last week. The hostesses were
Mrs Clell Rea, Mrs Edison Mor
gan, Mrs Omar Rietmann and
Mrs L A McCabe.
Mr and Mrs Geo Drake and
son, Robert, are moving Into the
Pete Cannon house on Second
Street which they purchased re
cently. Mr and Mrs Sam Pomerantz
of Van Neys, Calif spent a few

costumes, presented several songs and dances for the audience
who watched the mock trial for hoss stealing. The program was
part of the welcoming celebration for the Wagon Train put on
by members of the Boardman Chamber of Commerce and the
Heppner-Morrow County Chamber.

Bauman visit while the train breaks down for its overnight stay
at Boardman a week ago. The train was welcomed to the county
by hundreds of residents nd visitors. All this series of pictures
were scheduled for publication last week, but a delay In re
ceiving the cuts from the engravers before presstime last week,
