Boardman Pioneer Taken by Death

Sunday night while visiting rel
atlves there. Slnot the death of
his wife, Iva, in Dec, 1956, he
has made his home with his sis
ter, Hattle Edmondson, in Puy
allup, Wash. They were on their
way here and would have ar
rived in Boardman Monday.
He was born April 1, 1874 in
LaMar, Missouri. He was married
to Iva McClellan in 1918, and
they came to Boardman in 1920,
residing on their farm two miles
south of town until Mrs Kunze's
death.
Besides his sister he is sur
vived by one son, Frank of Para
mount, Calif; two daughters, Mrs
Ervln Flock of Boardman, and
Mrs Alvin Deulen of Oakdale,
Wash; one stepson, Edward Mc
Clellan of Big Bear Lake, Calif,
12 grandchildren and 2 great
grandchildren. Funeral services will be held
in Forest Grove Thursday, 1:30
p m at Futen's Chapel. Burial
will be in Forest Grove.
Mr and Mrs Ben Kilbourne of
Shelton, Wash were weekend vis
itors at the home of Mrs Kil
bourne's brother-in-law and sis
ter, Mr and Mrs D C Deits. Chris
Deits accompanied them home
for a visit.
Mr and Mrs Urim Messenger
of Portland were weekend vis-
' itors at the home of Messenger's
father and stepmother, Mr and
Mrs Elmer Messenger. Other Sun
day visitors were Mrs Messen
ger's niece, Mrs Edgar Macken
and daughter Eva of The Dalles.
PFC Bobbie Locks Is visiting
friends here this week during a
30 day leave from Fort Eustis,
Va, where he has been stationed
for the past 11 months. After
his leave he will return to Fort
Eustis, and from there expects
to be sent to Germany.
Israel Pedraza has returned
home from a month's visit with
his brothers-in-law and sisters,

Mrs Claud Coats received word
last week of the death of Mrs
A T Herriam in Fort Collins, Colo.
Thursday. Funeral was to be
held there Monday. Mrs Herriam
was one of the early settlers
here, the family moving from
here about 1930.
Mr and Mrs Tony Ziellnski and
children Tonl Kay, Ronnie, Jerry
and Julie of Detroit, Mich are
here for a month's visit at the
home of Mrs Ziellnskl's parents,
Mr and Mrs Ernie Peck.
Mr and Mrs Wayne Kuhn and
daughters Pam and Casey are
on a two weeks trip to Altadena,
Calif to visit at the home of Mrs
Kuhn's parents, Mr and Mrs Jack
Ayling.
Mr and Mrs Robert Harwood
and Mr and Mrs Nate Macomber
left last week on a fishing trip
to East Lake.
Ronald Black attended an FFA
livestock judging workshop at
O S C at Corvallis from Wed
nesday till Friday of last week.
Roger Garvlson, Salem, arrived
last Friday for a six weeks visit
at the home of his grandparents,
Mr and Mrs Charles Anderegg.
Mr and Mrs Joe Crouch and
sons Jim, Pat and Danny return
ed home last Friday from a ten
day fishing trip to Diamond
Lake. They were joined there by
Mrs Crouch's brother and sister-in-law,
Mr and Mrs Frank Van
Atta and children Marilyn, Mar
sha, Davy and Dennis, of Sunny
side, Wash, who returned here
with them to stay overnight
Davy Van Atta remained here to
visit at the Crouch home.

at Umatilla city park Wednes
day of last week. Those attend
ing were Mrs Elvin Ely and
granddaughter Renee Ely, Mrs
Seth Russell, Mrs Arnin Hug,
Florence Root, Mrs Tom Dixon
and Shirley, Tommie, Phillip and
Mary; Mrs. Rollin Bishop, Mrs
Lyle Williams and Glenda, Ron
nie and Gary, Mrs Claud Worden
and granddaughter Kathy Loop,
Cheryl Daniels and Laura Allen.
Mrs Lowell Shattuck and Mrs
Margaret Klitz were hostesses
for the outing.
Mrs Ralph Skoubo was hostess
for the Tilllcum club at her home
Tuesday night of last week, with
nine members present Mrs Ken
neth Earwood of Los Angeles,
Calif was a guest
Final plans were made for the
princess dance held for Susan
Partlow at Heppner Saturday
night
Following the meeting the ev
ening was spent playing bingo,
with prizes being won by Mrs
Vernon Russell, Mrs Delmer Hug
and Mrs Andy Jones.
The next meeting will be held
July 28, the place to be announ
ced later.
The temperature has reached
lOn degrees and above for the
past four days, starting last
Thursday. Sunday maximums
were reported from 102 to 115 in
different parts of the town and
project One service station re
ported 110 on the service road
and another had 107. The 115
reading was reported from the
home of George King at Messner.
Mrs Glen Carpenter, Mrs Earl
Briggs and Mrs Clarence Root
gave reports on their trip to the
state convention.
The club will write letters to
the city council and to the Mor
row county court regarding the
blind corners in the city and on
the project.
