Padberg Family
Holds Reunion
Sunday at lone

The Padbere famllv reunion
was held in the lone city park
Sunday. Among the 72 In at
tendance were descendants of
Henry and Martha Padberg who
came to Morrow county in 1870
and settled on Rhea creek where
Darrell Padberg now lives.
Two of their children, William
and Lewis L Padberg and one
daughter-in-law, Mrs Lee (Lana)
Padbere were Dresent Of th 1G
living grandchildren, 15 were
present, along with 14 great
grandchildren, 14 great-greatgrandchildren
and 1 great-great-great-
grandchild.
Among those coming from a
distance were Mrs Vela Eubanks,
Mr and Mn C W Burton, Mr
and Mrs Archie Padberg Jr, all
of Portland; Mr and Mrs Clar
ence Kruse of Lake- Grove; Mr
and Mrs Leslie Roundy and fam
ily of Kennewick, Wash, Earl
Padberg of LaGrande; Mr and
Mrs Henry Halvorsen of Medford;
Mr and Mrs Vernon Padberg of
Pendleton; Mr and Mrs Harlan
Devin of Condon; Mrs Ralph Kin
caid of Stanfleld, Mr and Mrs
L D Vincent of Kimberley, and
Mr and Mrs Louis Corley and
daughter of Monument.
Mrs Ralph Kincaid of Stan
field spent the weekend with
Mr and Mrs Roger Kincaid. Deb
orah Kincaid returned home
with her Monday for a visit
Mr and Mrs Wallace Gaars
land and Mr and Mrs Richard
Rea spent the weekend at Wal
lowa Lake.
The daily vacation Bible
school closed at the lone Baptist
church Friday evening, June 19
with a program. The school
lasted a week with an enroll
ment of 65 and average atten
dance 58. The theme was Live
For Jesus.
The program opened with the
children, marching and singing,
Onward Christian Soldiers; the
salute was given to the Amer
ican flag; to the Christian flag

Riley, pastor, gave the invoca
tion; all sang Live For Jesus;
the beginners gave numbers in
the rhythm band, sang songs
and gave memory verses. The
primary class, with the theme
of Jesus the Good shepherd, gave
memory verses and Illustrated
them on the flannelgraph and
sang songs. The Juniors sang
and gave Bible verse readings
which were illustrated by drawings.
Rev Riley gave awards to those
attending all 5 days and those
who attended 4" out; of the 5
days. He ended with the bene
diction. The teachers were Ruby
Nichols for 1 the beginners, with
Mrs Rileyt Mrs Ralph Crum, Mrs
Carl Marquardt and Trova, Rig-
by as helpers; the primary, Mrs
Monetta Aldrich with Mrs Edi
son Morgan, Sherry? Corley, Ste
phen, Riley as helpers; the Jun
iors,. Mrs Anna M Sail with Rev
Riley as helper. Mrs. Carl Mar
quardt was the pianist; Rev Riley
the director, Sherry Corley the
secretary and Mrs Riley led the
singing.
Handiwork of the classes was
on display.
Mrs Dixon Smith entertained
the members of the public li
brary board at a luncheon at her
home Tuesday afternoon of last
week. They were Mrs Fannie
Griffith, Mrs Verner Troedson,
Mrs John Proudfoot and Mrs
Echo Palmateer.
The Arnica club met at the
home of Mrs Earl McCabe Wed
nesday afternoon, June 17 with
Mrs E W Bristow as co-hostess.
Court Whist was played after
the business meeting. Those re
ceiving prizes were Mrs Milton
Morgan, high; Mrs Dallas Shock
ley, low and Mrs Paul Petty
John the door prize.
Mr and Mrs E R Swart and
family have moved to Hermlston.
He has been depot agent here
for several years. Mr and Mrs
Ronald Bishop and daughter,
Barbara, of Echo are now living
at the depot where he is tem
porary agent.
Mr and Mrs James Lindsay
visited his mother, Mrs Earl King
in Sllverton last week.
The members of the Masonic
lodge and of the Eastern-Star
held their annual potluck din
ner and strawberry feed at . the
Masonic hall Sunday, June 21.
Their were around 60 present.
The Masons attended the Com
munity church In a bodj in the
morning.

Crest hotel near Cannon Beach,
June 19, 20 and 21. There were
39 of the family present. Those

John Eubanks and Sandra. Vis
itors from here were Mr and
Mrs Paul Pettyjohn and family
and Jo Ann Turner. There were
relatives from Spokane, Tacoma,
Fasco, Medical Lake, wasn, Fort
land. Officers elected for the
coming year were Earl Morgan,
president; B F Morgan of Med
ical Lake Wash, vice president;
and Mrs Lloyd Morgan, secretary
and treasurer.

held during July and August.

Jean Martin sang two songs ac

of Medford visited his brother
and family, Mr and Mrs Lewis
Halvorsen over the weekend and
attended the Padberg reunion,

last week from California where
they attended the graduation ex
ercises of their son, Duane, at
Stanford University. He graduat
ed in mechanical engineering
and has accepted a position with
Boeing Aircraft in Seattle about
Sept 1. On their way down the
Bakers stopped at the Oregon
Caves and went through the Red
woods. They also saw the Rod
Kenzles at Berkeley, Calif and
brought a load of their furniture
to lone.

and Jean and Ralph, attended
the Marshall family reunion at
Bear Springs near Mt Hood June
14. Ralph also attended the Ice
Follies and the Centennial in
Portland. The Martins also visit
ed relatives at West Linn.
Mrs Ray HelmbiErner attended
the wedding of her nephew, Rod
Nichols, son of Mr and Mrs Tony
Nichols, to Patricia Schaeffer. in
Odessa, Wash June 20.
The H E C of Willows eranee
met at the mountain home of
Mr and Mrs Marlon Palmer Fri
day, June 19. They were enter
tained at a dinner by Mrs Mar
ion Palmer, Mrs Lee Palmer and
Mrs Harold Dobyns. There were
12 members present. At the busi
ness meeting In the afternoon
conducted by Mrs Harvey Ring,
chairman, It was decided to have
a booth for Willows grange at
the Morrow County Fair. Mrs
Lewis Halvorsen, Mrs Marion
Palmer, Mrs Harold Dobyns and
Mrs Ring were named on the
committee. New silverware and
new window blinds have been
received for the grange hall. Mrs
O L Lundell received the door
prize.
Mrs Ernest McCabe entertain
ed the Bridge club at her home
Friday evening of last week. Dup
licate bridge was played. Those
receiving prizes were Mrs Walter
Corley and Mrs Pete Cannon,
high and Mrs Ray Boyce and
Mrs Delmer Crawford, 2nd high.
Mrs Harvey Ring and Linda
Rowell returned home from Port
land Thursday evening of last
week where they visited rela
tives and took in the Rose Fes
tival and the Centennial. Tommy
Harris returned home with them
to spend the summer here.
Mr and Mrs Oscar George and
family moved to Hermlston. Mr
and Mrs Alvin McCabe and son
will move in the house vacated
by the Georges.
