Former Lex Woman
Dies at Newport

Funeral services were held in
Newport, Ore on Wednesday
afternoon for Mrs Rhoda Bu
chanan who passed away in a
hospital there May 4th. Mrs Bu
chanan was born to . Elvareta
Nolton and Thomas Edmison at
O'Clair, Wis. She was united in
marriage Sept 2, 1919 to Charley
Buchanan at Ellensburg, Wn. Mr
and Mrs Buchanan have resided
in Lexington since 1939, until
last year when they moved to
Newport with their daughter to
Make their home. She leaves to
mourn her passing, her husband
Charles, one sister, Amy Nelson
Klickitat, Wn, two brothers.
Charles of Bremerton and Theo
dore of Ellensburg, three daugh
ters, Suzanne Vinson of Hepp
ner, Mary Patterson of Whitman,
Calif, and Ida Lohrer of New
port, 5 sons, John Dawson of
Seattle, Wn; Clarence Buchanan
of Heppner; Robert J of Berkeley,
California; Charles W Portland,
and David of College Place, Wn;
16 grandchildren, 2 great grand
children. Services and burial
were both in Newport.
The Women's Fellowship group
sponsored a dinner and love of
fering for Mr and Mrs Norman
Northrup at the Lexington Chris
tion church on Sunday after
noon. After a potluck dinner at
1 P M a short program was en
joyed, with Kenny Jones play
ing an accordion solo, Franklin
Messenger giving a vocal solo,
and a most Instructive talk by
Don Hatfield. Following this the
gift was presented Mr and Mrs
Northrup by Vernon Munkers.
The tables for the dinner were
decorated by spring flowers, and
Mrs Vernon Munkers presented
Mrs Northrup a beautifully dec
orated birthday cake as the day
was her birthday. After Mrs
Northrup blew out the candles
cake and ice cream were served
to 70 guests.
Miss Nadine Waddill of Eu
gene, and Miss Katy Waddill of
Oregon City visited their parents,
Mr and Mrs Dale Waddill over
the weekend.
