Citizens of Boardman and Irri
gon voted unanimously lor for
mation of one school administra
tive district In Morrow county, at
a hearing here Thursday night
of last week, with provision for
local school committees.
The vote was the same as
action taken on the same reso
lution at hearings in lone and
Heppner last week. Reports from
Irrigon P-TA, Irrigon Home Ex
tension Unit and Irrigon Grange
also supported the resolution.
Up to this time only one Mor
row county community, Cecil,
has opposed the administrative
unit plan.
After adjournment, a vote by
show of hands indicated a unan
imous wish to proceed with the
administrative district immediat
pIv. Fred Martin. lone, chairman
nf the Morrow County School
Reorganization Committee, said
school law does not now provide
fnr local school boards under the
administrative district setup, but
does provide for a seven-man
county wide school board.
Tentative plans are to name
the following districts as zones
. from which one board member
would be elected: Irrigon, Board
man, lone, Lexington, plus for
mer rural Echo and Heppner dis
tricts, Heppner and Hardman
rural districts and Heppner city.
A present House bill 4 provides
for an improved local committee
arrangement for both elementary
and high schools.
A provision has been added to
allow the local committee to re
ject a teacher for the following
year not later than March 1.

Approve County School Proposal
Blitz Gives Musical To Oregon

PORTLAND (Special) Stan Freberg (1.), well-known
radio and recording artist, presents the original script for (
the musical comedy "Oregon! Oregon!" to Fred Wessinger,
vice president and general manager of Blitz-Weinhard Co.
The brewery commissioned Freberg to write and produce
the 21-minute recording as the firm's 100th birthday pres
ent to Oregon. Believed to be the first musical comedy ever
premiered on radio, the musical will be heard on radio
stations throughout Oregon after February 11th, the brew
ery announced. Capitol Records recorded the show using
Billy May's orchestra and the Jud Conlon Rhythmaires.
Stan Freberg is starred and former Oregonian Helen Kletb
has a leading role in the show.
