Mustangs Roll On;
Boardman Falls

The Heppner high Mustangs
continued their winning streak
this week by walloping Board
man 65 to 40.
Heppner opened at a fast pace
and kept It up throughout the
game. The Mustang second
string, better known around
school as the mole patol, started
the game and did a fine job,
In the first quarter Heppner put
through 12 points to Boardman's
4, but the second and fourth per
lods were the big ones with the
Mustangs getting 37 points In the
two.
Green with 16, Robinson with
15 and Gray with 14 were high
point for Heppner.
The JV's added to Boardman's
woes by winning their game 53
to 44.
The Junior Mustangs lost two
other games Tuesday night to
the Hermiston Earlybirds. Both
games were close 44 to 42 and
38 to 36.
The Mustangs meet Echo here
Friday night, then travel to Stan
field for a Saturday game.

mates and teachers. Kenneth
Keeling will present a map of old
school districts and locations
that will recall school days for

teresting landmarks of school
development in the county.

program, reported that the cake
to be served will feature a map
of Oregon. Mrs J R Huffman

table.

February 11 will mark the be
ginning of a series of special
Wednesday evening Lenten ser
vices for Hope and Valby Luth
eran church members, It was
announced today by Rev John
Rydgren, pastor of the two
churches.
During the seven Sundays of
Lent the two churches will build
their worship around a study of
the life of Christ climaxing In
his death and resurrection. Seven
colored motion pictures on the
life of Jesus will form the core
of each Wednesday evening ser
vice which will be held at Hope
church in Heppner starting at
7:30. Valby members will Join
the Heppner group in worship
and In sponsoring the films.
A fellowship coffee hour will
be held following the services
and all members and friends of
the church are invited.

Rural Fire District
Petitions Circulated
Petitions asking for the for
mation of a rural fire protection
district In the area surrounding
Heppner were placed In circula
tion this week, and early reports
are that many residents have
signed them.
The petitions call for a district
embracing ail the area roughly
In a seven and one-half mile
square from the city of Heppner,
about all the area that can be
Included In a district that will
meet underwriter's requirements
for insurance credit.
Between 25 and 50 names are
necessary before the petitions
can be presented to the county
court which will then order a
public hearing and set the date
for an election on the question.
The petitions give a full descrip
tion of the district, and a map
showing the area.
Hospital Group Plans
Membership Drive
The executive board of the Pio
neer Memorial hospital auxiliary
met Monday afternoon at the
Bank of Eastern Oregon.
It was reported by the mem
bershiD committee that two
new members Joined the auxil
iary, Mrs A H Nelson and Mrs
Clifford Wagner.
It was decided to have mem
bership cards and there will be

A committee was appointed,
with Mrs Gar Swanson of lone

dance.
Special project for the year will
be the purchase of a movie pro
jector to be used for training

date, Monday, Feb 16, at the

WILL ATTEND CONVENTION
Keith Imus, manager of . the
Penney department store here,
will attend the company's nat
ional convention in San Fran
cisco on Feb 9, 10 and 11.
The convention, the first company-wide
convention since 1956,
will focus on objectives for this
year and the immediate years
ahead. Also, a report on last
year, when Penney's sales reach
ed an all-time record high of
$1,325,575,254.
Mrs Imus will accompany him
on the trip.

Sometime during the weekend
a window was broken out of a
small storage room in the gym
and about $15 in cash was stolen.
The money was from the sale of
