Beta Omega chapter ot Epsllon
Sigma Alpha met at the home of
Mrs Oscar Peterson, Wednesday
evening, November 19, honoring
Mrs Charles Doherty.
Her Jewel pin was presented
to her by Mrs Walter Corley,
president.
For the program, Mrs Bill
Scrlvner played two piano solos
and Mrs L F Leathers gave a
reading.
Refreshments were served to
the 12 members present by the
hostesses, Mrs Donald Peterson
and Mrs Robert Hosklns.

Christmas Program
St Monica's guild of All Saints
Episcopal church met Tuesday
evening, November 18 at the
home of Mrs James J Farley,
with Mrs Jack Loyd as co-hostess.
The Christmas program for the
Sunday school was discussed
with Mrs William Labhart as
signing parts.
Final plans for the annual ba
zaar, lunch and tea to be held
December 6 were discussed.
It was decided to not hold a
meeting in December and the
next meeting will be Tuesday
evening, January 20 at the home
of Mrs Robert Jones. ,

Mrs Gonty Initiated
At District Meeting
of Degree of Honor
The Degree of Honor held a
district convention at Pendleton
on Wednesday, November 12
with lodges of Pendleton, The
Dalles, John Day, Baker and
Heppner being represented.
Following the luncheon served
by the hostess lodge, a school
of Instruction was directed by
national commltteewoman and
state director, Mrs Clara B Gert
son, assisted by state president,
Mrs Anna Splckman of The Dal
les and state past president, Mrs
Irene Scott of John Day.
A banquet was served at the
First Christian church followed
by a lodge meeting at Vert Mem
orial building. An address of wel
come was given by the president
of the Pendleton chamber of com
merce.
During the meeting, Mrs E E
Gonty of Heppner was Initiated
and Mrs Pat Mollahan of Hepp
ner and Mrs Helen Cash of La-
Grande, formerly of Heppner
were among those presented 25
year membership pins.
Sixteen members from the
Heppner lodge were in attendance.

From Oregon State
Gene Lear, state extension
agent from Oregon State college,
was the guest speaker at the
Thursday noon meeting of Sor-
optimist cjud or Heppner.
Miss Esther Klrmis, Morrow
county home demonstration
agent, introduced Mr Lear, and
he spoke on Farm -City relations.
He told the group that Ore
gon's three primary sources of
Income were timber, farms and
tourist trade, In that order. That
agriculture contributes about
40 of all gross income in the
United States.
He also stated that DeoDle are
eating better today on less than
they did In 1929. A smaller Der.
cent of the Income is used for
food today than was- used 20
years ago.
Janice Martin was the senior
girl representative from the
high school at the meeting.

WSCS Sets Christmas
Program Wednesday
The WSCS of the Methodist
church will have a Christmas
program on Wednesday evening,
i December 3 at 8 p m. There will
be singing of Christmas Carols
of other lands, instrumental
numbers and readings.
On Wednesday evening, Nov
19, the group concluded the
study of the North American con
tinent and reports were given
by Mrs Velma Glass and Rev
Lester Boulden.

First we had a talk on good
manners by Mrs Smith. Then our
meeting was called to order by
our president, Judy Smith.
Our secretary, Vickl Barratt
was absent so we didn't have
any minutes. Our treasurer, Kar-

the record book. We sang four
songs and the meeting was ad
