meeting with Mrs C E Brenner,
president, in charge, reports were
given on the district convention
in Pendleton by Mrs Cleo Drake,
Mrs Cecil Thome, Mrs Brenner,
Mrs Earl McCabe and Mrs John
Eubanks, Mrs Thome brought
articles to be made for the Vet-1
eran's hospital. Gifts were alsoj
brought for the Gift Shop for
the Veteran's hospital in Port-,
land. Refreshments were served
by Mrs Drake and Mrs G Her-'
mann. !

.Youth Group Plans
Visit to Church
! Home in Beoverton
The high school class of the
I First Christian church Bible
school will go to Beaverton Sun
day, Nov 2 to visit the North
western Christian home for the
aged. The group, under the dir
ection of their minister, the Rev
Charles Knox will conduct the
morning worship for the home.
The class will be dinner guests
at the home and then tour the
home and its landscaped
I grounds.
The group will leave Saturday
afternoon and be guests of the
Mallory Avenue Christian church
high school group. Each member
will take a sleeping bag or bed
roll as overnight quarters will
be arranged in the church gym
nasium. During the Saturday ev
ening activities the group will
go roller skating.
Rev Knox stated that approxi
mately 20 young people are plan
ning to take part in this trip
and transportation will be fur
nished by the parents. Last year,
16 members of the class visited
Ihe church's White Swan and Mc
Klnley Indian missions in Wash
ington. Oregon Corn Show
Scheduled Dec. 6
Increased interest in field corn
production in Oregon will turn
the spotlight on corn growing,
harvesting, and feeding practi
ces at this year's Oregon State
Corn Show, reports Rex Warren,
Oregon State college farm crops
specialist.
The 17th annual public show
is scheduled December 6 at the
Benton county fairgrounds, Cor
vallis, starting at 9 a m.
Top corn yields, 10-ear exhi
bits, and judging contests will
still be major events, Warren
states, but will share the pro
gram with "educational type"
discussions on corn growing and
feeding.
Oregon field corn acreage this
year hit a record high of 47,000
acres, compared to 36,000 last
year and 25,000 acres In 1950.
