Mrs Rawlins received word that
she was elected conservation
chairman of the Blue Mountain
district.
Plans were made for the booth
at the Morrow County Fair.
Mrs McLeod gave a report on
the garden club members visit
ing the patients in the nursing
home in the Pioneer Memorial
hospital. They took fruit and ma
gazines. The Garden club mem
bers visit the hospital the third
Monday of each month.
For the program, Mrs Eugenia
Coats gave a very interesting
talk on the flowers in Guate
mala, Central America. Mrs Coats
is visiting her sister Mrs Etta
Huston and was a missionary in
Guatemala for 27 years but now
lives in Temle City, Calif. Her
late husband was also a mission
ary there. Mrs Huston received
the door rlze.
Rev Bill Collier, pastor of the
First Baptist church in lone
showed pictures taken on his
trip to Korea last month. He also
gave a talk on the conditions
and his experiences in Korea. He
told of the orphanage of which
Mr Olson is the head which is
now cut off from all support
there are 80 children in the or
phanage and 100 people In the
old folks home in connection
with the orphanage. Rev Collier
stated that this orphanage is now

operated on faith. An offering
was taken at the church to bring
Mr Olsons twin children, a boy
and a girl to the United States
by plane so they can enter school
in this country in September.
$1200 is needed for this project.
Mrs Gordon White and child
ren, Gerry and Lona, took Jerry
Darby to his home in Silverton
last week. They went to San
Francisco this week to take Blng
Johnson to his home. Darby and
Johnson have been assisting Mr
White in harvest.
Mr and Mrs Arthur Crawford
and Mr and Mrs Clyde Crawford
returned Sunday evening from a
ten day trip into Canada. They
went to Lake Louise, Baniff, Cal
gary and stopped at Great Falls,
Montana to visit relatives.
Mrs Phil Emert reports that
her mother, Mrs Lucy Faith Fol
lett of Hermiston is recovering
from a fractured hip at the Her
miston hospital. . She was in a
car accident near Eugene about
two weeks ago. Mrs Follett's sis
ter, Mrs Mary Griffin, of Lake
view, died from the result of the
accident.
Mr and Mrs Tom Fahey and
children and Mrs Scott of Oak
land, Calif are visiting at the
Delbert Emert home. Mr Fahey
is a brother and Mrs Scott an
aunt of Mrs Emert.
Milton Morgan and Roy Lind
strom left in the Morgan boat
Monday morning to go down the
Columbia river to Astoria deep
sea fishing.
Mr and Mrs Clarence Holtz are
visiting in the eastern states.
Mr and Mrs Milton Morgan and
son, Gary attended the St Louis
Cardinals-Portland Beaver game
in Portland Monday evening of
last week.
Mr and Mrs Elmer Holtz made
a business trip to Portland Fri
day of last week.

Mr and Mrs Robert DeSpain
and son, Bobby Lee- spent a
few days last week at Florence
where they visited the Charles
Hudsons. Bobby Lee remained in
Portland for a visit at the Merle
Baker home.
Jerry Bristow is vacationing at
the coast.
Mr and Mrs Lloyd Howton and
children, John, Jimmy, Joyce and
Jackie, returned home Sunday
from a trip to California. They
attended the wedding of her ne
phew, Larry Campbell of Echo, to
Miss Sharon Price, Aug 9 at the
Wayfarer Chapel at Portugese
Bend, Calif. In Los Angeles they
visited Disneyland, Knox Berry
Farm.the Marineland and a TV
show and also visited Mr How
ton's brother and family, Mr and
Mrs Norman Howton at Solvang.
They saw the Giants-Dodgers
game in L A, the St Louis Cardinals-Giants
game in San Fran
cisco and some polo games. They
came home the coast route and
stopped at the Sea Lion Caves.
On their way down they stopped
at Peterson Rock Gardens and
Crater Lake. Their son John flew
home Aug 10.
Word was received that George
Ely of Salem underwent surgery
there Saturday of last week.
Mr and Mrs Duane Baker and
daughter of Menlo Park, Calif
ornia are visiting his parents, Mr
and Mrs E M Baker. They also
visited her parents, Mr and Mrs
F V Ison in Milton Freewater.
Baker is a student at Stanford

with the telephone company and
is on a vacation.

tended the graduation exercises
of their son, Jerry, at Eastern
Oregon college of Education at
La Grande Friday morning, Au
gust 15. Parents and friends were
served breakfast at the college.
Jerry will teach at Brookings this
year.

Friday evening of last week from
the coast, Portland, Forest Grove
and Salem.

Kansas visited her brother-in-
law, John Bryson. She was ac
companied by her daughter and

Mrs Milton Morgan showed
pictures on Mexico City and
other cities in Mexico at the
Marantha club meeting at the
community church parlor Wed
nesday afternoon. The pictures
were taken on their tour to Mex
ico last winter. At the business
meeting conducted by Mrs Bryce
Keene, President, the members
discussed ways to raise money
for the club. Mrs Wate Crawford
served refreshments after the
meeting. Mrs Keene received the
door rize.
Mr and Mrs Dale Ray are visit
ing at the home of their daugh
ter and family, Mr and Mrs John
Armington in Los Angeles.
Mr and Mrs Marion Palmer and
Mr and Mrs Lee Palmer went
huckleberrying on Mt Adams re
cently. They also visited relatives
at Cascade Locks.
Mr and Mrs Gene Hall and
Mr and Mrs Pete Cannon return
ed home from a trip Friday. They
went to Spokane, Couer d' Alene
Idaho, and Into Montana and to
Glacier National Park.
Mrs Delia Corson returned
home Monday of last week from
a three weeks trip. She was ac
companied by her niece, Mrs
Florence Swanson of Portland.
They made the trip by bus. They
stopped In Sacramento, Calif,
Reno, Nevada, Los Angeles. They
visited Mrs Corson's son and
daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs
Eldred Corson at Victorville, Cal
ifornia. Mrs Corson visited rela
tives In Sunnyvale and at San
Jose she also visited Mrs Olena
Keller, and at Santa Rosa she
visited Rev and Mrs Moffat, Den
nis and Mrs George Crane. Mrs
Crane was a resident here many
years ago and celebrated her
79th birthday In March.
Mrs Corson also attended the
Pioneer picnic at Champoeg park
