Due to the prevalence of meas
les among the children of the
first and second grade the pup
ils of those grades have been dis
missed from school for the re
mainder of this week. Ten cases
have been reported, and several
cases have been reported among
pre school age children also.
Mr and Mrs Walter Hayes
went to Portland Sunday.
Mr and Mrs Charles Smith
visited their son-in-law and
daughter, Mr and Mrs Harold
Marlow, overnight Monday on
their way to Waldport, where
they have purchased a motel.
The county extension unit met
Friday at the home of Mrs Bob
Stewart. Mrs Gene Hiigel and
Mrs Don David were hostesses.

The Ladies Aid Society of Com
munity church met Wednesday
of last week at the manse, with
Mrs Charles Anderegg and Mrs
Claud Worden as hostesses. Mrs
Arnin Hug was in charge of the
Spiritual Life program, and also
presided over the meeting in the
absence of the president, Mrs
Ruth Lyons. The society has
bought four more chairs for the
church basement.
Mr and Mrs Franklin Ball are
the parents of a daughter born
at the Good Shepherd hospital
In Hermiston March 4. She has
been named Karen Marie. Grand
parents are Mr and Mrs Roy Ball
and Mr and Mrs Harold Kress
of Boardman. Great-grandparents
are Mrs Frances Meyer and
Mrs Emma Kress of Lewlston,
Idaho. Great-great-grandparent
is Mrs M L Goldsmith of Red
lands, Calif. The baby weighed
seven pounds, 15 ounces.
Members of the Crusaders
group of Community church held
a slumber party at the home of
their leader, Miss Jean Scott, last
Friday night. Present were San
dra Thorpe, Chloe McQuaw, Ei
leen Ely, Patty Miller, Irene
Potts, Dorothy Rash, Charlotte
McKenzie, and Colleen and Karen
Anderson.
Temperatures have dropped
down to 17 above Monday and
Tuesday " mornings. Maximums
have been about 50 above.

Mr and Mrs Zearl Gillespie
have received word that their
son, Pvt Donald Gillespie, stat
ioned at Sandia Army base near
Albuquerque, N Mexico, Is quite
ill in the hospital there.
Mr and Mrs William Garner
and children Dick and Anita of
Hines were weekend visitors at
the home of Mr and Mrs Dewey
West. Sunday guests at the West
home were West's parents, Mr
and Mrs Dewey West, Sr, and
his brother-in-law and sister, Mr
and Mrs John Hutson of Arline-
ton, and his brother-in-law and
sister, Mr and Mrs Dale Russell
and three children, Danny, Steve
and Dalene of The Dalles.
Mr and Mrs Joe Yusckat (Hil
ma Lee Tyler) are the parents
of a daughter born March 8 in
Portland. She has been named
Gloria Dianne and weighed sev
en pounds 14 ounces.

went to Troutlake, Wash Satur
day to visit at the home of Mr
and Mrs Douglas Califf.

ed at the home of Mr and Mrs
Darrell Marlow Monday.
Mrs Dewey West attended a
meeting of the 4th district of the
Oregon Federaion of Women's
clubs at Fossil Saturday. The
speaker was Mrs J P Devereux,
state 2nd vice-president of the
Federation of Bandon.
Mr and Mrs Elvln Ely went
to La Grande Wednesday of last
week to visit at the home A
their son-in-law and daughter,
Mr and Mrs Eldon Lilly. Their
granason, jay Lilly, had surgery
on his neck Thursday.
