church basement, friends and
members of Hope Lutheran
church gathered for their monthly
all-family recreational party, aft
er which they assembled for their
second annual meeting to elect
officers and lay plans for the fu
ture.
This was the second adult me
bership class received into mem
bership this year. After a thorough
10-week review of Scriptural tea
chings and a straight-forward
presentation of the church's ap
proach, anyone who desires is
eligible for membership. With the
second class 34 new members
have been added this year.
Assembly of God
Group Has Christmas
Party Friday Night
About 45 persons attended a
prtluck supper and Christmas
party held by the Assembly of
God church at the Methodist
church basement Friday, Dec. 13.
The table arranging and sett
ing was directed by Mrs. Erling
Storro, and decorations by Mrs.
Ron Kinard, with helpers Erling
Storro, Ron Kinard, Marie Petty
john, Norma Geyer, Dianne Geyer,
Ronda Kinard, and Mrs. Willis
Geyer.
The welcome committee con
sisted of Mr. and Mrs. Muggs
Storro, Mr. and Mrs. Herman How
ard, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Pettyjohn,
and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Barnett.
A get acqainted time was en
joyed in which those present told
their name, place of birth and oc
cupation. A drawing gift was received by
Mrs. Paul Arbuckle. A sportsman
ship award was received by Wil
lis Geyer, also awards were pre
sented to the persons whose
names were drawn to work on
the clean-up committee. Ten cent
gifts were exchanged by all.

entertained the staff of the Ga
zette Times for dinner on Mon
day evening.
Christmas decorations were us
ed about the room and the small
tables were centered with a cand
le and holly.
Those present were Mr. and
Mrs. Ray Smith, Richard Bloom,
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wilson, Mrs.
Elaine S. George, Neal Penland,
and the host arid hostess.

For VFW Makes
Many Visitations
The district president, Gladys
Van Winkle of Lexington, V.F.W.
post No. 6098, has completed her
yearly visitations to the follow
ing posts in the district, Milton
Freewater, Weston, Pilot Rock,
Hermiston, Echo and Pendleton.
She was accompanied on these
trips by Margaret Nichols, senior
vice president of the Lexington
post.
Regular VFW auxiliary met
Wednesday evening at the VFW
hall with seven members present.
The Christmas party was held
Saturday, December 14 at the
hall.
District Commander Roy Mart
sin accompanied by district in
spector William Nichols, went to
Echo last Thursday for a visita
talion. o

Holiday Party
Mrs. E. K. Schaffitz entertained
the Sewing Club last Wednesday
nftpmonn. Plans were made for a
ootluck dinner to be held at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond
Ferguson during the holidays.

P. W. Mahonev, Mrs. Ferguson

Joint Installation
Held Saturday By

Heppner lodge No. Gi), AF&AM,
and lloppnor chapter No. 2G, Roy
al Arch Masons, installed their
new officers for 1958 at a public
installation in the Masonic temp
le on Saturday evening, Dec. 14.
Installation was preceded by a
turkey dinner prepared by the
ladies of Ruth chapter No. 32, OES
with Mrs. Dick Wilkinson, worthy
matron, in charge.
The turkey dinner and joint in
stallation of the officers of the
Masonic bodies is a custom that
began soon after the chartering
of the Ruth chapter in the mid
lNJO's, and lias been followed
with few exceptions since that
time. The Eastern Star oft.eors are
no longer installed in Divember,
their election time having been
changed to mid year to coincide
with that of the Grand Chapter.
Masonic officers installed by

marshal, and R. C. Wightman, in-j

Members of St. Patrick's church
enjoyed their annual Christmas
party at the American Legion hall
Saturday evening.
Rev. P. J. Gaire extended to the
group the greetings of the Christ
mas Season and expressed his ap
preciation to the entire parish for
their assistance during the year.
For extraordinary service during
the year, Rev. Gaire presented a
poinsettia to Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Doherty; Mrs. E.E. Gonty, acting
for Mr. Gonty, new president of
Holy Name society, presented a
iioinsettia to Mr. Paul Koenig,
outgoing president; and Mrs. Paul
Koenig. new president of the Alt
ar Society, presented a poinsettia
