lone Auxiliary To Provide Gifts For Vet's Hospital

The American Legion Auxiliary
held its meeting at the Legion
hall, Tuesday evening Nov. 5,
with Mrs. Sam Esteb and Mrs.
Cleo Drake as hostesses. Plans
were made for the potluck dinner
to be held at the hall Veteran's
Day. Members are urged to bring
Christmas gifts for the Gift Shop
for the Veteran's hospital in Port
land to the next meeting which
will be held at the home of Mrs.
John Eubanks Nov 19 at 8 p.m.
Suggestions for gifts are: for
men, toilet article sets, belts,
shirts, socks, ties, etc.; for women,
pillow cases, sheets, towels, hose,
sweaters, etc, and children, dres
ses, socks, sweaters, gloves and
toy's. These articles must be new
and no breakables.

The Topic club held its meeting
at the home of Mrs. Charles Carl
son Friday sftcnoon Nov. 8 with
Mrs. Roland Bergstrom as co-hostess.
At the business meeting con
ducted by Mrs. John Proudfoot,
president, it was decided to hold
coffee hours this winter to raise
money for the public library. Mrs.
Bergstrom gave a. review of the
history and geopraphy of Brazil
and Peru.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lindstrom
spent the weekend in Portland.
Mrs. Robert Jepsen and son,
Billy, were Pendleton visitors last
week.
Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Matthews
and daughters left Friday of last
week for Portland where they
.-pent the weekend.
Members of the Mahonic lodge
eniertained the high school boys
of the lone and Lexington schools
also the men teachers of each
school at an athletic banquet at
their hall Friday evening Nov. 8.
The banquet was served by mem
bers of the Eastern Star and high
school girls waited on the tables.
Rev, Floyd S. Bailey gave the in'
vocation and the benediction.
Gene Rietmann, Worshipful Mast- j
er, was the master of ceremonies
and gave a talk, the coaches of
the schools also gave talks. After;
the banquet movies were shown
and songs were sung. The tables
were decorated with autumn
leaves and mums with football
cutouts in the center of the tables.
Mrs. Ernest Heliker and Mrs.
Kathryn Yarnell were honored
with a birthday party at the Hel
iker home Nov. 1. Mrs. Lewis Ball
and Mrs. Floyd Bailey were the
hostesses. Others present were
Mrs. Elsie Petersen, Mrs. Sam
Esteb, Mrs. Arvilla Swanson and
Mrs. Donald Ball and children,
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Heliker
made a trip to Eugene last week.
Mrs. Beulah Lundell of Portland
has been visiting relatives here.
A teen-age party aws given at
the grange hall Friday evening
Nov. 8 in honor of Karen Lund
ell and Kenny Jones who had
birthdays on that day. Dancing
was enjoyed and refreshments
were served during intermission.
Mrs. Hershel Townsend had
charge of the party.
Mr. and Mrs. John Eubanks
were Portland visitors last week.

She was a patient in the St. Vinc
ent hospital there following surg
ery. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dobyns,
Mr. and Mrs. Noel Dobyns and
Mr. and Mrs. Earl McKinney left
Monday for the Hawaiian Islands
by plane. They went on the
grange tour.
Mrs. Grant Rigby is a patient
in the Pioneer Memorial hospital
following surgery .
Word was received of the death
of Lester Baker at the Veteran s
hospital in Walla Walla Nov. 11.
