meat cutting demonstration will
be put on by Barney Durn, meat
consultant of Safeway stores; an
open forum on problems on the

of the National Woolgrowers As

scheduled to make-up the pro

Oregon Woolgrowers Association
in notifying the membership of
the meeting points out, "This is
our industry and the problems
connected therewith is our re
sponsibility. Corrective measures
can be forthcoming only if each
and everyone's efforts are direct

problems."
Members of the Oregon Cattle
men recently received a hunter
conduct report which they asked
to have filled in and returned at
the end of the hunting season to
their office in Prineville. This re
port will enable them to know
whether hunter-farmer relation
ships have been improved over
last vear. are the same, or worse.
Last year's- report indicated that
something would need be done
If farmers continued to allow
huntinc on their land. Relation-
shins between the hunter and
ransher was such in Morrow
countv last year that many ran
chers vowed never to permit
huntinc on their land again. Re
ports coming to this office this
year are encouraging that re
lationshins have improved con
siderably through action of the
hunters this year. The Morrow
County Livestockgrou ers associ
ation last year surveyed all ran
chers, however nothing has been
said of such a survey in l'J57.
Those who do have a report to
trrake, however would be encour
aged. The Oregon State Game
Commission, Isaac Walton Lea
gue and other sportsmen organi
zations have been interested in
what ranchers might report at
the end of this hunting season.

At a recent producer-sponsored
sale in La Grande, 600 calves and
520 yearlings were sold. A top of
$26.50 was reached on 31 fancy
steer calves. It is believed that
this top sets a new high for steer
calves in Oregon this year Heifer
calves topped at $20.60 and heif
er yearlings at $18.20. The top
on yearling steers was $21.40. At
another special cattle auction in
Jackson county over 1100 feeder
cattle were sold. Some 814 steers
weighing from 450 to 650 averag
ed just over $21.00. The top was
$2120. It is said that heifers in
the sale generally sold for $2.00
under the steers. Prices averag
ed $1.C0 above current offerings
in the country.
