lone Legion Auxiliary Hears Membership Talk

day afternoon Oct. 2 with Mrs.
John Eubanks as hostess. At the
business meeting conducted by
Airs, victor Rietmann, president
Mrs. Eldon Tucker, membership
chairman, gave a talk on mem
bership. The Unit has G5 mem
bers. Mrs. Eubanks asked that
old nylon hose be broupht to the

mann stated that the gifts for the
Gift Shop in the Veteran's hospi

auxiliary for the $150.00 nurses,
scholarship presented her.

Tea Held
The Know Your Library Week
sponsored by the Topic club,' end
ed at the public library Thursday

ments were served from a table
with a pale pink cloth and a
centerpiece of pink Mums. Fall
ftowers were used around the
ro'om. Those pouring were: Mrs.
Robert Woodroof, Mrs. Charles
O'Connor, Mrs. Wate Crawford,
Mrs. Omar Rietmann, Mrs. Robert
Rietmann, Mrs. Harvey Ring,
Mrs. Denward Bergevin, Mrs.
Charles Wilkes, Mrs. John Proud
' foot, Mrs. Roger Kincaid and Mrs.
Fannie Griffith. Over 40 people
attended tne tea. $38.40 was
taken in which will go to the
library. Mrs. Victor Rietmann
and Mrs. Vernor Troedson had
charge of the tea.
During the week books were re
viewed at the school by Topic
club members and 151 school
children visited the library dur
ing the week and took out 156
books.
Cookies and punch was served
to them during those days.

ner spent the weekend with her
brother and family, Mr. and Mrs.
Eldon Tucker.

The high school Sunday school
class of the Community church
were given a party in the church
basement Sunday evening. A din
ner was served and games were
played. Those helping with the
party were Mrs. Norman Nelson,
Mrs. Roland Bergstrom, Mrs.
Raymond Lundell and Mr. and
Mrs. Milton Morgan. Rev. and
Mrs. Lloyd Knight were also pre
sent. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Turner and
sons have moved to Pendleton.

ing was a violin solo by Mrs.
Kenneth Smouse, "Someday" ac
companied by Mrs. E. M. Baker
on the organ.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Peterson
are in Portland. Their daughter,
Mrs. Rod Kvistad of Beaverton,
is a patient In the Good Samari
tan hospital in Portland.

A social hour was held after
the regular business of the
Bunchgrass Rebekah lodge Thurs
day evening Oct. 4 with Mrs.
Wate Crawford and Mrs. Arvilla
Swanson as hostesses. At the
business meeting Mrs. Wallace
Matthews gave a report on the
reception in Heppner Sept. 1 in
honor of G. Palmer Sorlien, the
Grand Master of the I. O. O. F.
lodge of Oregon.
Unit Meets
The Extension Unit held their
meeting at the Masonic hall Oct.
4 with the subject, Seafood in
Your Meals. Mrs. E. M. Baker
and Mrs. Marion Palmer were the
demonstrators. They showed how
to prepare shrimp cocktails,
baked stuffed salmon, sea perch
and toasted tuna sandwiches.
These were served at the noon
meal along with salads and
desserts.
Mrs. Jimmy Pettyjohn and
Mrs. Elmer Holtz are taking the
training for the cotton blouse and
shirt dress shop.
Louis Buschke went moose
hunting In Canada.

day of last week from the Pioneer
Memorial hospital.
Mrs. Donald McElligott and
daughter Joan Eileen, returned
home from Pendleton last week.
Receives Scholarship
Duane Baker, son of Mr. and
Mrs. E. M. Baker and student at
the Pacific University, was one of
seven students' at the University
to receive a scholarship for the
academic year 1956-1957. He
received a Standard Oil of Cali
fornia scholarship. These stu
dents are chosen on the high
school records in scholarship and
activities. Duane's picture was
in' Sunday's Oregonian.

Dickinson, associate Grand Con

McCabe, high; Mrs. Delmer Craw

Boyce, low.
Mrs. Cecil Thome entertained
members of the 8 et 40 of the
American Legion auxiliary at her
home Friday evening Oct. 5.

Mrs. Edith White and son Dale,
Mrs. Imogene Mooney, and Mr.
and Mrs. Gordon White attended
the funeral services of Mrs. Lula
Berg of Oak Harbor, Wash., Oct.
3rd., The services were at Coop
ville, Wash. Mrs. Berg was a
sister of Mrs. Edith White and
Mrs. Mooney. Sfie lived for many
years In Yakima.
Word was received of the death
of Mrs. Beulah Davin in New
York Oct. 4 She was a grand
daughter of Mrs. Ellen Rieth and
a niece of Mrs. Paul O'Meara.
Mrs. Davin was the former Beu
lah Newlin.
Mrs. Anna Lindstrom is visit
ing her daughter and family, Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Helina in Seattle.
Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Lindstrom
took her to Seattle.
Mrs. Bess Perdue is visiting in
Hermiston.
Mr. LaGaurd of Belmont, Calif.,
is visiting at the Franklin Lind
strom home.
Mat Halvorsen is staying at
Mrs. Young's rest home in Lex
ington. Mr. and Mrs. Russell McKnight
