Cpl. David Buchanan was a
visitor last week at the home
of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Char
lie Buchanan. David was en
route from an army camp In
Kansas to Anchorage, Alaska
where he will be stationed.
Henry Maxwell Breeding was
a weekend visitor at Spray.
Buster Shown has returned to
his home after several months
visit In Colorado with a brother
and also a trip to the Atlantic
states for a visit with relatives.
Mrs. Helen Leyva and son Hugo
motored to Portland Sunday even
ing, where Hugo enrolled In the
Northwest Flower school on Mon
day. This is a week's school held
at Oliver and Thompsons, and all
branches of florist arranging
are taught there.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Nichols and
infant daughter returned home
on Friday from Port Angeles,
Washington where Mrs. Nichols
had been called concerning the
estate of her father, the late Rev.
Charles J. Tubbs, who passed
away there July 12, 1956. Ser
vices were conducted from the

Discussed By Club
At the regular monthly busi
ness meeting of the Soroptimist
club Thursday noon at O'Don
nell's it was decided to sell fruit
cakes again during the holiday
season as the club project. Also
plans were discussed for the
annual hayride on Hallowe'en.
Committee reports were given
and Kathy Roscoe was a guest
of the club.

He left to mourn his passing two
daughters, Mrs. Bill Nichols of
Lexington and Mrs. Wilma Her
mann of Portland, and a host of
friends and relatives in the Wash
ington community.
Mrs. Ray Papineau entertained
on Monday afternon with a birth
day party honoring her daughter
Candy's birthday. Games were
enjoyed by the youngsters as
was the traditional birthday cake
and ice cream. rnose attending

daughter Barbara, Mrs. Wayne
Papineau and children, Mrs. Eu
gene Sawyer and daughter Pearl,
Mrs. John Edwards and daugh
ter Karen, and Candy's grand
mother, Mrs. Orwick.
Tuesday afternoon Mrs. Bill
Van Winkle Jr- entertained with
a birthday cake and coffee for a
surprise birthday party for her
sister, Mrs. John Edwards. Those
present for the afternoon were:
Mrs. Bob Davidson. Mrs, Eldon
Padberg, Mrs. B. J. Doherty, Mrs.
Ray Papineau, Mrs. Pine Thorn
burg, and the hostess Mrs. Van
Winkle.
Visitors at the Frances McMil
lan home last week were Mr. and
Mrs. Claude Hill and family of
Redmond, Mrs. Lee Vinson of
California, Mr. and Mrs. Montee
Moran of Redmond who were all
here to attend the funeral servi
ces of Claude's mother, Mrs. Hill,
in Heppner. Also visiting at the
home of her mother part of this
time was Mrs. Freda Slocum of
Heppner.
Mrs. Bill B. Marquardt and fam
ily are visiting at the home of
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. E.
Messenger Sr. in Mitchell.

family reunion which they hold
there each year.

busy putting in some new flues
at Theron Kings ranch home.

drove to Milton-Freewater Thurs
day morning where she visited
her sister and family, the Victor
Wiese's. She returned to Pendle
ton Friday where she had ap
pointments for the children for
school check-ups.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Wright
of Chelan, Wash., came in Friday
to spend the weekend with her
son and family, the Bob King
mans. They left Monday morn
ing. Mrs. Lee Allen was In town on
Thursday from Long Creek visit
ing at the Owen Smiths.
Maynard Hamilton was In Long
Creek Saturday helping with
city water pipes.
Mrs. Delmer Settle and three
children and Mrs. Harry Scott

and left for home Sunday after
noon. Mrs. Doris Kingman and her
mother drove to Long Creek Mon
day where they joined Mrs. Jes
sie Scott and son, going on to
Pendleton for checkups. On their
return they brought back Mrs.
Louise Scott of Top who had been
staying at the home of her uncle,
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hynd, and her
sister and mother who had flown
in from Ontario, Canada to visit
relatives at Cecil, Pendleton,
Monument and Granite.
Dinner guests at the Kingman
home Sunday were Mr. and Mrs.
Ralph Wright of Chelan, Wash.,
Dale Matteson, Jessie Scott and
son of Long Creek and Mrs. El
mer Matteson.
Jack Loyd left Monday for La
Grande where he was called by
the illness of his mother who Is
in the hospital there.
