lone Club Holds Mother-Daughter Tea Sunday

Around 80 attended the Mother.
Daughter tea in the Community
church parlors Sunday afternoon
which was sponsored by the
Maranatha club. The following
was given with Mrs. Noel Dobyns
in charge: Welcome by Dianna
Pettyjohn and the response by
her mother Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn;
two violin solos, Little Old Lady
and I'll Have the Last Waltz With
Mother, by Mrs. Kenneth Smouse,
accompanied by Mrs. Bill Riet
mann; reading by Deniece and
Berniece Matthews; song, Tie Me
to Your Apron Strings Again
My Mom, by Mrs. Gordon White
and daughter, Lona, and Mrs.
Loren Leathers and daughter,
Dalene; a skit by Brenda Kay
Townsend, Karen Lundell and
Linda Heimbigner; piano solo by
Karen Lundell and a reading,
Grandma, by Mrs. Dobyns. Bou
quets of tulips were given to the
oldest mother, Mrs. Anna Lind
strom; to the youngest mother,
Mrs. Roger Kincaid and the
mother coming the longest dist
ance, Mrs. Lester Baker of Wal
la Walla.
Refreshments were served from
a table with a centerpiece of min.
ature red rosebuds and lily of the
valley and pink candles. Mrs. W.
E. Melena and Mrs. Ray Heimbig
ner oured and Marilyn Morgan
presided at the punch bowl. Mrs.
Anna Lindstrom had charge of
the guest book.
The bridge club met at the
home of Mrs. Walter Corley Fri
day evening May 4. Mrs. Robert
Miller received high prize, Mrs.
Gene Hall low and Mrs. Pete
Cannon, Jack high.
Extension Unit Meets
The lone extension unit met at
the home of Mrs. Leonard Cart
as co-hostess. Miss Beverly
son May 3 with Mrs. Henry Baker
Bradshaw, county extension agent
gave a demonstration of remodel,
ing, repairing, and remaking of
garments. The following offi
cers for the coming year were in
stalled, Mrs. Roger Kincaid, chair
man; Mrs. Harold Dobyns, vice
chairman; and Mrs. Jimmie Pet
tyjohn, secertary-treasurer. Mrs.
Bryce Keene was the installing
officer. Mrs. Merle Baker was
the outgoing chairman. Corsages
were presented to the officers
which were made by Mrs. Edith
Nichoson. This was the last
meeting of the year.

etta Aldrich, Mrs. William Raw
lins, Mrs. Etta Huston and Mrs.
Edith Nichoson attended the
Blue Mountain district garden
club at Joseph Friday of last
week.
Gerry White attended Willa
mette University over the week
end as a guest of the Sigma
Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Heimbigner
and son Tommy, attended the
funeral services of her uncle, Jack
Schauerman, in Odessa, Wash.,
Tuesday May 1.
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Carlson
and daughters of Portland spent
the weekend with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Carlson
and other relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Baker and
daughter, Mardine and Judy
Mason spent the weekend in Spo
kane. They attended the ice
follies there Saturday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles O'Connor,
Mrs. James Lindsay, and Mrs.
Sam Esteb attended the recep
tion for Mrs. Hortense Colberg,
Grand Warden of the Grand
Chapter of the Eastern Star of
Oregon, at Pilot Rock Saturday
evening.

James Lindsay attended , the
Eastern Central Oregon associa
tion of the Eastern Star at Pen
dleton Sunday.
Mrs. Herbert Ekstrom and Mrs.
Omar Rietmann of lone and Mrs.
John Bergstrom of Heppner at
tended the Mother's Day activi
ties at Oregon State over the
weekend. They also attended part
of the centennial at College of
Education at Monmouth. During
their stay in Corvallis they stayed
at the Delta Chi house.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Snyder and
children of The Dalles spent the
weekend with her parents, Rev.
and Mrs. Wilfred McKay.

Voting at the city hall 8 a. m. to
8 p. m. Lunch served at the Re
bekah hall.
May 18 H. E. C. of Willows
grange meeting at the home of
Mrs. Elsie Peterson in the after
noon. May 19 Willows grange meet
ing at 8 p. m. A talent show will
be given around 9:15 p. m. to
which the public is invited to
attend.
May 20 Work at the cemetery
to complete laying th pipes. This
is sponsored by the sorority group
and would like all the help they
can get.
Auxiliary Meets
The -American Legion Auxiliary
met at the home of Mrs. Eldon
Padberg in Lexington Tuesday
afternoon May 1. Plans were
made for the luncheon to be held
at the Legion hall May 14 at 1
p. m. The department president
and vice president and the dis
trict president will be the guests
Also the members of the Heppner
unit. All members of the local
unit are urged to attend. A clean
up day at the hall was set for
May 10 at 1:30 p. m. It was de
cided to purchase articles for the
Legion hall kitchen. Mrs. Vic
tor Rietmann, Mrs. Earl McCabe
and Mrs. John Eubanks were ap
pointed on this committee. The
next meeting will be at the hall
May 15 at 8 p. m. when election
of officers will be held.
The Social club of Locust chap
ter of the Eastern Star entertain
ed the Social club of the Ruth
chapter of Heppner at a card
party at the Masonic hall Wed
nesday afternoon May 2. Those
winning prizes in pinochle were
Mrs. Fred Mankin, high, and Mrs.
Carl Bergstrom, low; in bridge
Mrs. Waiter Ruggles, high and
Mrs. Frank Wilkinson, low.
Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Parker of
Newberg were recent visitors at
the home of her brother and sister-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil

Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Ely and
daughter Eileen, of Boardman
and Mr. and Mrs. Allen Ely and
children of Hermiston were re
cent visitors here.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Patten
are the parents of a daughter,
Linda Dee, born April 30 at the
Pioneer Memorial hospital. Her
weight was 8 lbs. and 6 ozs. The
grandparents are Mrs. Lewis of
Pendleton and Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Taylor of Boardman. Mrs. Patten
and baby returned home Satur
day of last week.
Cecil Padberg Is working at the
Darrell Padberg ranch. He recent,
ly has been in California.
Mr. and Mrs. David Baker and
Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Lind
strom flew to Kent Sunday. They
planned to attend a Flying Far
mers pot luck dinner at a ranch
near Kent but the weather was
so stormy that they returned
home.
Mr. and Mrs. Adon Hamlett at
tended an insurance convention
at Gearhart the first of the week.
Mrs. Ray Barnett an1 son, Joel,
left for Seattle last week. Mrs.
Barnett will visit her son-in-law
and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ver

now visiting her sister Mrs. Law

Mr. and Mrs. Lester Baker and
daughter Esther Mae, of Walla

home. She was five years old.

that the assembly president will
be here June 20 and the district
convention will be held in Hepp.
