information at Oregon State Col
lege has a one-year leave com
mencing January 1, 1956.
The appointment seems a defi
nite signal that Patterson will
run against U. S. Senator Wayne
Morse next November and that
Shideler will be his press agent.
JUDICIAL COUNCIL
The first meeting of the Judi
cial Council created by the 1955
Legislature has been called for
December 10 by Chief Justice
Harold Warner.
The council has as its purpose
the continued survey, and study
of the organization, jurisdiction,
procedure practice and methods
of administration and operation
of various courts throughout the
state.
Some 40 circuit judges and
seven members of the supreme
court will attend.
CONVENTION CITY
An event in Oregon's capital
last Saturday sparked ideas with
state mall and Salem city plan
ners encerning convention and
similar public parades.
A ten-block Christmas parade,
sponsored by Salem Merchants,
WANTED!
MEN TO TRAIN
FOR REAL ESTATE APPRAISERS
Age 21 to 60. Must be residents of this county two or more
years. Competent appraisers receive $325 to $400 per month.
Farm experience valuable.
Write Box 24, Gazette Times
brought out a record number of
parade viewers mostly children,
who thrilled at the fairyland ex
travaganza floats and six bands.
The excellent view of the pa
rade afforded by the block
square new Meier & Frank Salem
store started the planners think
ing and talking.
Now Salem has not only the
largest store in Oregon outside
of Portland, it also has a super
grandstand for parades. The
"trial run" Saturday accommo
dated more than 10,000 people
who saw the show from 12 of the
block-long balconies on the 2nd,
3rd and 4th floors of the store.
An estimated 7,000 more thronged
both sides of the streets surround
ing the store.
This, the planners declare,
should make Salem even more
attractive as a convention city.
