Observance Set For
Milron-Freewarer
The Pendleton Commandry
number 7 Christmas observance
program will be held in Milton
this year in accordance with the
precedence of holding this pro
gram in various cities in the
jurisdiction of the Tendleton dis
trict. The observance in Milton
Freewater is to be presented in
the Christian church located on
south Broadway starting at 2:30
p. m. Sunday, Dec. 11, according
to chairman R. E. Batchelor, of
Pendleton.
Truman Robbins, pastor of the
Christian church, will deliver the
Christmas message and congre
gational singing will be includ
ed on the program.
The Pendleton Commandry is
inviting the community to par
ticipate in the observance and
Batchelor states that the Pendle
ton Commandry, Knights Tem
plar of Oregon, is a part of York
Rite Masonry of Oregon and has
over 300 members in Hermiston,
Umatilla, Heppner, Fossil, Pen
dleton. Milton-Freewater and
other states.

Farm Building Loans

Farmers in Morrow county who
own and personally operate fam
ily-type farms and need to build
or repair essential farm build
ings, including dwellings, may
be eligible for building improve
ment loans through the Farmer's
Home Administration, James S.
Cody, the agency's county super
visor said this week.
A building improvement loan
is only one type of the agency's
farm ownership loans. Loans
are made either from insured
funds put up by private leaders
or from funds appropriated by
Congress. Other types of farm
ownership loans the Farmer's
Home Administration makes or
insures, enable farmers to pur
chase, enlarge, develop, or im
prove family-type farms. Con
struction and repair of essential
farm buildings are provided for
in all types of farm ownership
loans to the extent necessary to
make the farm an efficient unit.
With a building improvement
loan a farmer may construct,
alter, repair, replace, or relocate
an essential building or build
ings on his farm. Specific im
provements are agreed upon be

fore the loan is made. Buildings
must meet reasonable construc
tion standards and be adequate
for the farm's needs. No loan
is made tnat wij brng a farmer's
indebtedness up to more than the
fair and reasonable value of the
farm.
Loan funds may be used to
provide a water supply for dwel
lings and other buildings includ
ing wells, pumps, and farmstead
distribution systems.
A building improvement loan
may be made for periods from
5 to 40 years, depending on the
improvement, and the farmer's
debt-paying ability.

As we summarize 4-H Club re
cord books at the end of the pro
ject year, some Interesting de
tails are uncovered in financial
statements and stories of the club
member's work during the year.
One of the interesting record
books received was that of Rus
sell Dolven, Lexington livestock
club member, who last year won
the Safeway Stores livestock
breeding project scholarship for
outstanding work In his sheep
breeding project. Russell, who
has Just completed his fifth year
in club work started out with a
couple of Southdown ewes and
has gradually developed into one
of the top sheep breeding pro
jects. In addition to his small
Southdown herd, he has a regis
tered Columbia flock which now
totals 50 head. Income from his
sheep and wool this past year
was almost $2,000 with a $500
profit. Indicating that he is get
ting something out of club work,
this year Russell was fourth
place judging individual In the
Oregon Wheat Growers League
fat stock sale judging contest
with almost 200 club members
participating.
Last Sunday, members of the
Heppner-Butter Creek livestock
club met to reorganize their club
for the new club year. Interest
was so high that the club ended
up dividing itself up into three
clubs from the original one. Clubs
organized were the Butter Creek
Hinton livestock club, The Hoof
and Horn livestock club and the
Rhea Creek livestock club. Each
club has at least five members
with prospects for additional
members in each.

Thanksgiving Services
Held By Christians
The congregation of the Hepp
ner Christian church held a
special harvest home and Thanks
giving service Sunday morning.
Special Thanksgiving music was
presented by the choir.
A Thank offering which totaled
over $1,100 vsas taken during the
service which was followed by a
fellowship dinner. A program of
songs and readings was present
ed by younger members of the
Sunday school.

daughter, Mrs. Robert Kelly and
her daughter, Luanne, to their

after a visit here of several
