Soroptimists Hear
Aims And Objectives
Of Civic League
Mrs Bradley Fancher, president
of the Heppner Civic League and
Mrs. William Sowell, treasurer of
the kindergarten board told the
Soroptimist club Thursday at
their luncheon meeting at O'Don
nell's, about the aims and ob
jectives of the Civic League and
the financing of the kindergar
ten.
Mrs. F.ancher spoke on the Lea
gue s main money making pro
ject, the rummage sale and told
what they did for publicity. They
have found the telephone a very
effective' way to advertise, also
classified advertisements and the
theater.' They send posters to
other towns and have found that
word of mouth a, very good
means of letting people know
about the sale. One of their best
ways of publicity is having music
play in front of the place of sale.
One thing they try to do is not
to hesitate when other organiza
tions ask for help on projects.
Mrs. Sowell told of the cost of
running the kindergarten. They
ran at a small loss last year,
but have a larger enrollment this
year and too their expenses aren't
so great now that they are in the
school. The heating was a great
problem in the building they
were in last year.
In keeping with National Edu
cation Week, Darrell Blake, sen
ior at Heppner high school, gave
a talk urging everyone to support
National Education week and to
visit the school at any time, not
just during this week.
