a miniature bride and groom
and circled with pink mums.
Fall flowers were used about
the rooms. After the first piece
of wedding cake was cut by the
honored couple it was served by
Mrs. Walter Roberts and Mrs.
Cecil Thome. Pouring during
the afternoon were Mrs. Waite
Crawford. Mrs. Alfred Troedson
Mrs. Olive Engleman, Mrs. Ar
villa Swanson, Mrs. Anne
Smouse. The guest book was in
charge of Miss Delores Leavens,
Mrs. Clayton Ayers, Mrs. Mar
ion Paimer, and Mrs. Milton
Morgan assisted about the
rooms. Relatives coming for the
affair were Mr. and Mrs. Lester
Goodrich and Norma, from Hu
sum, Washington; Claude Breas
hers of Lvle Washington; Miss
Delores Leavens, of Portland;
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dinges ot
Lexington. There were 59 who
signed the guest book during the
afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ray, Claude
Breashers and Mr. and Mrs,
Lester Goodrich and Norman
spent Sunday morning touring
the McNary dam.

gon Technical Institute in Kla
math Falls spent the weekend
here visiting relatives.
The Marantha's held an all
day meeting at Mrs. Berl Akers
on Tuesday October 18. Election
of officers was postponed until
the next weeting. The Maran
tha's planned a banquet for
later on in the fall. Mrs. Shirley
received the door prize.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Esteb are
visiting and having dental work
done in Salem.
Mrs. David McLeod returned
home Saturday from being a pa
tient in the Pioneer Memorial
hospital.
The American Legion Auxiliary j
met at the Legion hall on Tues- j
day evening. A letter was re-;
ceived from Floyd Wiles who is
still a patient at the Veteran's
hospital in Portland. Mrs. Cecil
Thome gave a report on the
president-secretary conference
which was held in September in
Portland. Refreshments were ser
ved by Mrs. Ernest McCabe, Mrs
Robert DeSpain, and Mrs. Walter
Corley.
Mr. and Mrs. Holmes Gabbart
and granddaughters Cynthia and
Diane Meyers of Portland were
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace
Matthews this weekend..
Mr. Beecher Emert of Seymour,
Tennessee is visiting relatives
here for a few weeks.
Mrs. Leo Crabtree took Mrs.
Hattie Crabtree back to Salem
on Sunday. Mrs. Leo Crabtree
will return home on Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Carlson
are visiting relatives in Portland,
Eugene and Salem this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dobyns
returned from a trip to Denver,
Colorado where they attended the
rodent pest control convention.
They reported a very enjoyable
trip.
The Altar Society met at the
home of Mabel Cotter's recently.
They elected officers for the com
ing year. President, Mrs. Den
ward Bergivin; vice president,
Mrs. Tom Bristow; secretary-trea
surer, Mrs. Dick McEligott.
Mr. and Mrs. James Barnett are
the parents of a daughter born on
October 17. She has been named
D-Ann. She weighed 7 lbs. 6 ozs,
Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs,
Ray Barnett, Mrs. Margaret Mad
den of St. Helens, Eldon Madden
of lone. Great grandmothers are
Mrs. Archie Welch of Hermiston,
and Mrs. Hermann Havekost of
La Grande.
Richard Barnett, small son of
Mr. and Mrs. James Barnett is
spending a week in St. Helens
with his grandmother, Mrs. Mar
garet Madden.
Mr. and Mrs. 'H. R. Ekstrom
spent last week in Portland visit
ing relatives and attending the
P. I. also they went to Medford
and visited Mrs. Ekstrom's moth
er, Mrs. Lester Wilkins.
The H. E. C. of Willows Grange
held their annual turkey dinner
and bazaar on Saturday evening.
A very good crowd attended the
dinner. Approximately $250 was
cleared from the evening.
Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Burres of
Ridgfield, Washington are visit
ing with Mr. and Mrs. Corliss Mc
Leod. They are Mrs. McLeod's
parents.
The home extension tailoring
workshop had two meetings this
past week. They are making suits
and coats. Those taking the class
are Mrs. Arthur Warren, Mrs.
Louis Carlson, Mrs. Charles O'
Connor, Mrs. Merle Baker, Mrs.
Rodger Kincaid, and Mrs. James
Pettyjohn. The leaders are Mrs.
Wm .Rawlins and Mrs. Lonnie
McCabe.
Guests at the Roland Berg-
strom this weekend were Dr. Ro
bert Marcum and another Dr. of
Portland. They came here to bird
hunt. Dr. Marcum is a cousin of
Mrs. Bergstrom. Carlee Bergstrom
returned to Portland with them
to visit with her grandparents
this week.
Mrs. G. Hermann was hostess
for a birthday dinner Sunday in
honor of her husband's birthday.
Those attending were Mr. and
Mrs. George Bleck, Mr: and Mrs.
Harlan Crawford of Hermiston,
and Helmuth Hermann came
from Portland where he attends
Dental school. He was accom
panied by Miss Nadine Ruhling.

S. put on the degree work for the
district meeting at Heppner on
October 19.
Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Engstrom
and Mr. Severson of Portland
were weekend guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Arthur Stefani Jr.
The Topic Club meeting was
held at Mrs. Charles Carlson's on
Saturday. Two tables of bridge
and two tables of pinochle were
played. Those winning prizes in
Bridge were Mrs. Cleo Drake, high
Mrs. Alfred Shirley, low; and Mrs.
Clell Rea, jack high; those win
ning in pinochle were Mrs. Vemer
Troedson, . high; Mrs. Wm Raw
lins, low; 300 pinochle, Mrs. Wm
Melena. The hostesses were Mrs.
Charles Carlson, Mrs. Victor Riet
mann, Mrs. Roland Bergstrom,
and Mrs. Charles O'Connor.
Norman Swanson, Larry Jacobs
and Denny Swanson all of Port
land spent the weekend here

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Heliker
have returned home from their
cabin in the mountains where
they have spent most of the last
couple of months. Mr. and Mrs.
Dale Ray have spent some of the
time with them.
Gene Heliker is staying at the
Donald Heliker home. Gene Is
recovering from a broken arm
and elbow.
Mrs. Bertha Hamlett of Palo
Alto, California died ,on Sunday
October 16 at the age of 69. Fun
eral services were on Tuesday,
October 18 at 2.00 o'clock with
Tinney Funeral Home In charge.
Services were conducted by Rev.
Harold Bottenille and the Order
of the Eastern Star chapter 250
from Sunny ville, California. She
was survived by two sons Thomas
Elson of Palo Alto, Calif., and
William Adon of lone, four
grandchildren, Mrs. Arleen Robin
son of Los Angeles, Robert Ham
