New Local Project To
Benefit Community
The Beta Omega chapter of
Epsilon Sigma Alpha met Octo
ber 13 at the home of Mrs. Wate
Crawford. Guests at the meeting
were Mrs. Don Linnell, Mrs. C. E
Brenner and Mrs. Lewis Halvor-sen.
A preferential tea was planned
for October 27, when rushees will
be pledged.
Beginning in November, theH
meeting nights will be changed
to the first and third Wednesdays
of the month.
Reports were given by Mrs.
Loren Leathers on the council
meeting held in September in La
Grande and Portland.
Discussion was held on a new
local project to benefit the com
munity and a committee con
sisting of Mrs. Walter Corley, Mrs.
Gordon White and Mrs. Loren
Leathers was appointed to check
into financial details and sup
plies necessary to complete the
project.
Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen showed
a movie of the activities of the
Crippled Childrens hospital
s school in Eugene and Camp Eas
ter Seal, both projects supported
by Oregon chapters of the soror
' ity.
Following the meeting refresh
ments were served by the hos
tesses Mrs. Tad Miller, Mrs. Ro
bert Hoskins and Mrs. Corliss
McLeod.
Nineteen Tables At
Annual Soroptimist
Benefit Card Party
The Episcopal parish house was
lovely with fall flowers Monday
night when nineteen tables of
bridge and pinochle were in play
at the annual Soroptimist party
The proceeds from this party
are used each year to finance the
Hallowe'en hayride given by the
club for teenagers, seventh grade
through high school.
Mrs. Tom Wilson received high
score for bridge and Mrs. Harold
Cohn was second. In pinochle
Miss Emma Anderson was high
and Mrs. John Bergstrom, second,
Mrs. Jack Healy received the
basket auctioned off at a Dutch
auction.
Mrs. Roice Fulleton, chairman
of the ways and means commit
tee of the Soroptimist club, was
in charge of the party, assisted
by her committee.

the Reneger bridge club last Wed
nesday evening at her Willow
creek home.
Guests present were Mesdames
Bradley Fancher, Dick Meador,
Laverne Van Marter, Wallace
Wolff, Gene Hall, Robert Jepsen,
James Driscoll, James Norene,
Larry Dowen, William Barratt
and Alex Thompson.
Mrs. Fancher was high; Mrs.
Van Marter, second and Mrs.
Hall, low.
Refreshments were served ' by

evening.

The Heppner Extension unit
met at the home of Mrs. Kenneth
Keeling Tuesday afternoon Oct,
11.
Mrs. Keeling and Mrs. Kemp
Dick conducted the project for the
day on mending tips.
Refreshments were served to

Bridge Club Party
The Fida and Fyouda bridge
club met Thursday evening at the
home of Mrs. Floyd Jones. The
lows entertained the highs with a
dinner preceding the evening of
bridge.
The hostesses wore Mrs. How
ard Bryant, Mrs. Frank Connor,
Mrs. Herman Green and Mrs.
Jones. Those being entertained
were Mrs. William Cox, Mrs. Paul
Jones, Mrs. Robert Ferrell, Mrs.
Cornett Green and Mrs. L. E. Dick.
High score was held by Mrs.
Cornett Green and Mrs. Paul
Jones held second.

nell's. Final plans were made
for the benefit card party held
October 17 and plans discussed
for the hayride to be held Mon

answers was conducted by Mrs.

Meets At Warner's
The Lexington Garden club
met at the home of Mrs. Cora
Warner with Mrs. Bertha Dinges
as co-hostess.

each member giving a short read
ing or poem In observance of
poetry week.
A report on lillies, peonies and
hollyhocks was given by Mrs.
Dinges.

The Heppner P-TA met Wed
nesday evening October 11 at the
school with president, Lowell
Gribble presiding.
Clarence Johnson proposed as
the project for the year, the fur
nishing of the new teacher's room.
This is to be considered and will
be discussed further.
President Gribble presented
Mrs. Nels Anderson with a past
president's pin.
Mrs. Roice Fulleton, program
chairman, introduced Mrs. Velma
Glass, Morrow county health
nurse, who spoke about the plans
for the year of the health depart
ment. Refreshments were served by
high school mothers, at the close
of the meeting.

Pine City Extension
Unit Meets Tuesday
The Tine Cily extension meet
ing was held at the Pine City
school on Wednesday October 12,
There were 20 present for the all
day meeting.
The demonstration on mending
tips was led by Mrs. George Lu
ciani and Mrs. Gaylord Madison.
There was a business meetng and
a sack lunch at noon.
The officers for the new year
are Mrs. D. 0. Nelson, chairman;
Mrs. Dan Blewitt, vice chairman
and Mrs. Marion Finch, secretary.
