Sweepstakes Winner
At lone Flower Show
The lone Garden Club held Its
annual flower show "Melody in
Flowers" on Sunday, Sept. 27th.
Soft music was played through
out the afternoon, and the theme
was exemplified by a large bar
or two of music an a large staff
and smaller motifs on walls of
Legion hall.
A sweepstakes gift given to the
guest receiving the most blue rib
bons was won by Mrs. Etta Hus
ton, winner of 12 of the coveted
blue honors.
Winning entries of Mrs. Hus
ton were mostly in the horticul
ture division as follows:
Aconitum, Asters, Calendula,
formal decorative Dahlia, Pom
pon Dahlia, Gailaidia, Geranium,
single ruffled Petunia, giant Zin
nias, annual Verbena, other Dah
lias and Marigolds. Jane Rawlins,
Mrs. Ralph Thompson and Eve
lyn Dobyns were five blue rib
bon winners.
Others receiving blue ribbons
were Anna Lindstrom, two; Mrs.
Ernest Heliker four; Mrs. Fred
rick Martin and Mrs. Roland
Bergstrom three each; Mrs. Vic
tor Rietmann, Mrs. W. E. Me
lena and Mrs. Lee Marcum two
each; and one each for Mrs. Wal
ter Dobyns, Mrs. Oscar Lundell,
Mrs. Fannie Griffith, and Mari
lyn Morgan.

Morrow county 4-H livestock
clubs have been invited to attend
the annual F. S. and Stanley
Green field day at their farm
near Stanfield. The date for this
annual event is Saturday, Octo
ber 8. During the day club mem
bers, as well as adults attending,
will get to see and participate in
a number of livestock manage
ment practices, as well as grad
ing and judging. The meeting
will start at 9:30 a. m. with bull
grading by John Landers, Oregon is feeding out one of his own
State College livestock special
ist. A judging contest will fol
low this with four beef classes
and two classes of hogs.
Morrow county's 4-H livestock
judging team that will attend
Pacific International, will have
the opportunity to do some prac
tice judging at this time. The
breeding, while Larry Campbell
purchased his Hereford steer
from the John Graves herd last
week. Several 4-H Club members
who plan to take steers to this
show are now looking for heavier
steers suitable for finishing out
by this early June date. Other
club members will select steers

of livestock disease discussion
and management demonstration
by Veterinarian Dr. Wayne Kli
zer. A showmanship demonstra
tion, horn weight demonstration,
bull profiling, finish grading and
a discussion of cow and calf re
cords will conclude the afternoon
program. The F. S. and Stanley
Green farm is located on the
loop road about eight miles north
east of Stanfield.
Considerable interest is being
shown this fall by club members
in fat steer projects. Two steers
are on feed now for the Oregon
Wheat Grower's League spon
sored, fat stock show and sale,
which will be held at The Dal
les in early June. Club members
A group of 4-H parents gather
ed Sunday at the 4-H club camp
on Herron Creek to work on the
summer camp building which
was started last June. During the
day the group rat proofed and
sided the building as well as
making other improvements on
the kitchen and storage room fa
cilities. Log siding was put on
and a store room lined with metal
for protection of camp equipment.
Doors were Installed in the build
ing and minor improvements were
made. Those that assisted at the
camp Sunday were Mr. and Mrs.
Bernard Doherty and children,
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Peck, Walter
Wright, and Mr. and Mrs. N. C.
Anderson and children. Heppner,

Rev. Paul Kimmell was called
to Hardman last week to hold
services for Francis Miller known
to his friends as Fan Miller, who
passed away at John Day at the
home of his niece,, Mrs. Bernice
Kimmell.
The frost last week got all the
melon vines.
Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Mahoney

Gribble spent the weekend in
