Party Fetes Mrs. Lindstrom

Mrs. Franklin Lindstrom was
pleasantly surprised at her home
Thursday evening Aug. 25 with a
birthday party. A potluck din
ner .was served. Others present
were Mr. Lindstrom and their
sons, Roy and Arthur, Miss Lola
Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Garland
Swanson, Mr. and Mrs. Adon
Hamlett, Mr. and Mrs. David
Baker and Lyle (Pinky) Allen
Mr. and Mrs. Lindstrom are leav
ing by plane from Pendleton on
Sept. 9 on a goodwill tour around
the world. They will go to Los
Angeles, to the Hawaiian Islands,
to Asia, Europe, through the Uni
ted States, back to Pendleton. Mr.
and Mrs. O. VV. Cutsforth of Lex
ington are also going on this trip.

Mr .and Mrs. Dale Ray returned
home last week from a two weeks
trip to Yellowstone park, and
through Montana where they
visited Lewis and Clark caves and
: Virginia City. They were ac
companied by their daughter and
family, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Good
rick and son, Norman of Husum,
Wash.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dobyns
are visiting their daughter and
family, Mr. and Mrs. Tad Hard
esty at Eugene.
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen
and family were Portland visit
ors last week.
Mrs. Ruby Nichols and son,
Lyle were visitors in Salem. Lyle
remained to attend the Blind
school.
Miss Elaine Nichols and Miss
Mary Rogers of Seattle spent the
weekend at Ray Heimbigners.
Miss Nichols is a niece of Mrs.
Heimbigner.
Mr. and Mrs. John K. Honey of
Portland spent the weekend at
the A. E. Stefani home.
Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Stefani and
children and Mrs. Carl Bergstrom
were recent visitors at the coast.
The Three Links club of the
Rebekah lodge met at the home
of Mrs. Arvilla Swanson Friday
Aug. 26 with Mrs. Wate Crawford
as co hostess.

side and Portland.

game in Pendleton Saturday
evening. Two boys, Denny Swan
son and Malcolm McKinney,
from here played on the East
team. Denny received the award
for being the outstanding line
man on the East team.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Miller and
family of Salem were recent visi
tors at the home of his sister and
family, Mr. and Mrs. Garland
Swanson. Their son, John, re
mained at the Swanson's for a
longer visit. Miss Lena Miller
who spent the summer at the
Swansons returned to Salem.
Ed Buschke and son, Louis,
and Harry Yarnell returned from
Fort St. James, B. C, last week
where they fished. Louis returned
to Fort St. James Sunday to hunt
moose.
Mrs. Olive Engleman under
went surgery at the Pioneer Me
morial hospital in Heppner last
week. She expects to return
home this week. Her son-in-law
and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John
Turner of Baker visited her over
the weekend. The yalso vii.ted
other relatives here.
Mr. and Mrs. Lock Taylor of
Olympia, Wash., visited friends
here last week.
Miss Beverly lson of St.
Paul visited her aunt, Mrs. Ida
Coleman last week. She was ac

daughter, Miss Ruby Ann Riet

dist church parlors in Arlington

Mrs. S. L. Wiles was a patient
in the hospital in Heppner. She
has returned to her hoipe.

home from the hospital in Hepp
ner Sunday where she was a
patient last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles O'Connor
and daughters are on a vacation
trip.
Miss Ruby Ann Rietmann has
moved to Pendleton, where she
will teach in the Hawthorn
school.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Jones
and son, Kenneth, returned from
a trip to Seattle Saturday of last

and family returned Saturday
from a trip to Diamond Lake
near Spokane. Their daughter,
Janet, also visited friends in
Portland.
Miss Nancy Burres of Ridge-
field, Wash., spent last week with
her sister, Mrs. Corliss McLeod.
Mrs. McLeod went to Ridgefield
with her to visit her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Orville Burres. She
returned home Monday and was
accompanied by Frances McLeod
who had been visiting her grand
parents, "Mr. and Mrs. Lester Fer
rer at Junction City.
Mrs. Mary Swanson returned
home last week where she v isited
her son and family, Mr. and Mrs.
Norman Swanson in Portland and
