Honored on Birthday
A family dinner was held at
noon August 2, honoring the
birthday of Mrs. Blaine Chapel,
at her farm home near Hardman.
Those present were Mrs. Ella
Farrens, Mrs. Harvey Harshman
and Mrs. Roy Thomas, sisters of
Mrs. Chapel. Nieces and nephews
present were Mrs. Ernie Parish,
Mrs. Tom Fraters and Elsie Wal
ker and one great nephew, Alvin
Ayers.
Those coming in for the after
noon to wish best wishes to Mrs.
Chapel and present her with a
cake baked by Mrs. Harold Wright
were Mrs. J. E. Hams, Mrs. Harold
Stevens, Mrs. Roy Wright, Mrs.
Clyde Wright, Mrs. Harold Wright
and Miss Alta Stevens.

Honor Mrs. Thomas
Mistletoe Rebekah lodge No. 25
of Hardman sponsored a birthday
party Friday Wugust 5 at the
home of Mrs. Blaine Chapel in
Rood Canyon, honoring Mrs. Roy
Thomas of Heppner.
The party was given in ap
preciation of the help and advice
given Mistletoe lodge by Mrs.
Thomas.
The afternoon was spent by
playing games and opening of
gifts received by the guest of
honor. Prizes were won by Mrs
Harold Wright, Mrs. Ella Far
rens and Mrs. Harvey Harshman.
A grab bag was a fun feature of
the afternoon.
Refreshments were served to
Mrs. Kenneth Batty, Mrs. Harold
Stevens, Mrs. Harold Wright, Mrs.
Vern Bell, Mrs. Harvey Harshman,
Mrs. Jessie Batty, Mrs. Frank Fra
ters, Mrs. Ella Farrens, Mrs. Wal
ter Wright, Mrs. Claud White,
Mrs. Victor Lovgren, Mrs. Doug
las Ogletree, Mrs. J. E. Hams, Mrs.
Miss Gayle Batty, Miss Alta Stev-'
ens, Dean Lovgren and the guest
of honor.
Reneger Bridge Club
Held at'Meador Home
Mrs. Richard Meador was host
ess for the Renegers bridge club
Tuesday evening August 2.
Refreshments were served at
the close of the evening to Mes
dames La Verne Van Marter, Gene
Hall, Jack Marshall, Bradley Fan
cher, James Norene, Allen Case,
Alex Thompson, Evonne Gam
mell, Bill Labhart, William Bar
ratt, Lary Dowen and the hostess.
Mrs. Fancher held high score,
Mrs. Gammell was second and
Mrs. Hall, low.
Mrs. Marshall was presented
with a baby gift by the members
of the club.

Soroptimists Plan
Program For Year
At the regular monthly busi
ness meeting of the Soroptimist
club held at O'Donnell's Thurs
day noon, committee reports were
given for the month and an out
line of the program for the year
was read.
Mrs. Floyd Adams, chairman of
the float committee for the
rodeo, told of the plans her com
mittee had made.
It was agreed to plan on mak
ing the traveling card party an
annual event of the club.

Methodist church. Mrs. Carl Mc
Daniel was in charge of the pro
gram and devotionals and Mrs.
Kenneth Carpenter presided at
the business meeting.

Mrs. Carpenter, Mrs. Walter Ed
ger and Mrs. Tom Wilson.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Scrivner
and daughter Diane of Portland
arrived at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Lee Scrivner Monday. Diane
will remain with her grandpar
ents for a few days while her par
ents are on a business trip to
Montana.

Peru Translator to
Speak at Lex Church
Rev. and Mrs. Robert Griffin,
missionary candidates to Peru
Peru under the direction of Wy
cliffe Translators, will be the
guest speakers Sunday evening
at 8 p. m. at the Lexington Chris
tian and Congregational church.
Rev. Griffin is an aviator and
his duties will involve transpor
tation of workers and supplies
for the translating teams. Wy
cliffe Translators work with the
American Bible Society among
the aboriginal peoples of Central
and South America reducing their
languages to writing and trans
lating the Scriptures into these
languages. It is a missionary
work that is commended by the
governments and offers a unique
opportunity.
Rev. Griffin will illustrate his
message with colored slides and
will present the American Bible
Society film, "In Over A Thous
and Tongues" The public is In

in the absence of Rev. McKay,
who is on his vacation for two
weeks.
