Ball Family Holds Reunion at lone

The Ball family reunion was
held at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Berl Akers Saturday evening,
July 9 with a potluck picnic sup
per. Those present were Mr. and
Mrs. A. C. Ball and son, Mrs. Eve
lyn Farrens and Mr. and Mrs.
Walter Wright of Heppner; Mr.
and Mrs. Roy Ball and grand
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Franklin
Ball and daughter and Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Baker and sons of
Boardman; Mr. and Mrs. George
Urlacker of Tacoma, Wash.; Mr.
and Mrs. Leon Ball and Family of
Heppner; Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Ball,
Matthew Ball, Mr. and Mrs. Wil
bur Akers and sons, Elmer Ball,
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ball and
family, Elbe Akers and Martin
Gabbert all of lone.
Mrs. Anna Nickle of Sumner,
Wash., is visiting relatives here.
She is a sister-in-law of Mrs.
Mary Swanson and Mrs. Arvilla
Swanson.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lynn and
son David, stopped here over the
weekend, they were on their way
home from a trip to Ohio, where
they visited his old home, and to
the Atlantic coast. They were
gone 3 weeks.
Recent visitors at the Alfred
Nelsons were her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. F. R. Ransdell of Port
land. Ole Stefani of McCloud, Calif.,
was a guest of his nephew, A. E.
Stefani last week.
Mrs. Verner Troedson was a
Portland visitor last week.
Mrs. Norman Nelson and child
ren, visited relatives in Salem
recently.
Seaman Wallace Gaars is here
on a 25-day leave. His ship, the
carrier, Kearsarge, is docked at
San Diego. He was accompanied
by Seaman William Easton.
Mrs. Sadie Olson of Spokane is
visiting her brothers, H. 0., Fred
and George Ely.
Mrs. Larry Fletcher and child
ren of Portland visited her par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Ring
last week. Her sons, Tommy and
Melvin remained here for a long
er visit. The Fletchers are mov
ing to Yakima.
Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Crawford
and daughters of Portland spent
this week with her mother, Mrs.
Ida Coleman.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Melena
and children of Pullman, W"ash.,
spent last weekend at the home
of his father, Wm. Melena.
Mr. and,Mrs. Donald Harris and
daughters of Portland spent the
weekend with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Clifford McCabe.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dobyns re
turned home from Eugene Fri
day of last week where they visi
ted their daughter and family,
Mr. and Mrs. Tad Hardesty.
The Fredrick Martins have sold
their house on Main street to
Victor Rietmann.
Mr. and Mrs. Heinz Pruss and
family and his parents and sister
have returned from a trip to Cali
fornia. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Melena re
turned home recently from a trip
to Nebraska. They also visited
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rietmann in Den
ver. Miss Flora Robinson and Mrs.
Iva Shelton of Portland were visi
tors at the Delia Corson home
over the weekend. They also at
tended the 50th wedding anniver
sary reception of Mr. and Mrs.
J. A. Troedson in Heppner Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Phil Newitt are
living in the Cecil Thome apart
ment. Mr. Newitt is the superin
tendent of the schools here for the
coming year.
Mrs. Harriet Hall of Monmouth
has been elected to teach the first
grade here.
Serv ices were held in the Valby
Lutheran church Sunday July 10
with Rev. Melvin E. Zier of Hepp
ner in charge.
Mrs. Robert Jepsen and son
William Robert, returned home
from the hospital in Heppner last
week.
Harry Yarnell returned home
from The Dalles hospital Sunday
where he underwent surgery.
Mrs. Algott Lundell has been
visiting relatives in Portland.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Fletcher
and family of Albany were reeent
visitors at the home of his mo
ther, Mrs. Sam Esteb.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson
and children of Seattle were
guests last week at the Donald
Heliker home.
The Beta Omega Chapter of the
Epsilon Sigma Alpha gave a
table and benches to the city
park.
Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Crawford
and daughters were Portland
visitors over the week-end.
Cpl. Harold Holtz has received
his seperation from the army and
is now at home with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Holtz. He
had been stationed at Camp
Medi, Pa.
At the city council meeting
last week it was decided to have
the trees in the street areas
sprayed for insects that are kill
ing the trees. Harold Dobyns is
doing the work.

Community church at 11 a. m.

the city park. A potluck dinner at
noon.

Lynn Marie Benge of Condon
is visiting her grandmother, Mrs.
Lana Padberg this week.
Mrs. Dolores Rowell of Pendle
ton spent the weekend with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Drake
New books added to the public
library are; Sweet Thursday by
Whipple and The First Transcon
tinental Railroad by Nathan.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles O'Connor
and daughters spent the Fourth
weekend in Bend and Sisters.
