Vandals Damage Boardman School

Vandals were at work over the
weekend at the Boardman school
when they threw large rocks,
breaking aboul thirty of the
brick glass windows in the show
er and dressing rooms of the new
gymnasium, and about twelve
windows in the vocational agri
culture room in the basement of
the old gymnasium. Robert Har
wood, custodian, discovered the
damage when he went to work
Monday morning. Sheriff C. J. D.
Bauman is investigating, but so
far there is no clue as to who
did it.
The Tillicum club is sponsoring
a dance Saturday night, June 25,
at the fair pavilion 9:00-1:00.
Music will be furnished by Riet
mann's orchestra from lone.
There will be prizes given.
Greenfield grange met Satur
day night at the hall, with Mr.
and Mrs. Ralph Skoubo as hosts.
There was a potluck supper at
6:30. During the lecturer hour
the program was honoring fath
ers. Prizes were given to Clyde
Tannehill, oldest father present;
Charles Forthman, youngest fa
ther; Guy Ferguson, handsomest,
by vote of the women; Nathan
Thorpe, father belonging to the
grange the longest. Other mum
bers on the program were a poem
"Cold Feet", by Charles Forth
man; tap-dance by Kathleen Dun
can; two musical numbers by Dar
rell Marlow, who played the gui
tar and sang; and a poem, "Snor
ing Husband" by Betty Forthman.
Mrs. Earl Briggs, grange master,
gave a report on her trip to the
state grange at Klamath Falls.

tendent, is attending summer
school at O. S. C. at Corvallis. Sid
Cloud is attending school at Reed
college, Portland.
The Boardman Garden club will
have their annual Sandflower Sis
ter party Monday, June 27, at the
home of Mrs. Nathan Thorpe.

and son Kenneth, Kevinville,
Alta, are visiting at the home of
Mrs. Larsen's brother and sister

Daily vacation Bible school at
the Community church was end
ed last Friday with the program
held in the evening. The school
had an enrollment of 72, with an
average attendance of 59. Perfect
attendance certificates were
awarded to 35 children. The mis
sionary offering by the children
this year will be given to the
American Bible Society.

Bremerton, Wash., visited Miss
Jean Scott and Miss Zelma Cowan
Saturday on their way to Spo
kane where Jackson presented a
concert Sunday evening. Another
visitor last week at the home
of Miss Scott and Miss Cowan
was Miss Jean Derbe, Tacoma,
Washington.
Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Black and
daughter Diane went to Newport
last week where Black attended
the state FFA instructors' confer
ence. Friday they were overnight
visitors at the home of Mrs. Crys
tal Barlow at Delake. Saturday
evening they attended the wed
ding of Miss Barbara Love and
David Cady at Newberg.

from here were Lt. and Mrs. John
Blackburn, Mr. and Mrs. Sid
Cloud, Mr. and Mrs. John Partlow,

Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Lilly and
children Jimmy, Janet and Jay,
La Grande, were weekend visi
tors at the home of Mrs. Lilly's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Ely.
Sunday they all went to Yakima,
Wash., where they were met by
Mrs. Ely's brother-in-law and sis
ter, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Davidson,
Mr. and Mrs. Willie Perkins and
Mr. and Mrs. Marion Hill, all of
Wenatchee, Wash., and had a
picnic at the Sportsman Park.
Gene Riley, Hood River, was a
visitor one day last week at the
home of his cousin, Mr. and Mrs.
Max Vannoy.
Mr. and Mrs. Nate Macomber
and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harwood
went to the boat races at Rich
land, Wash., Sunday.
The Tillicum club met Tues
day night, June 14, at the home
of Mrs. Don Downey, with nine
members present. Mrs. Kenneth
Earwood was a visitor. The club
will have their dance for Board-
man's fair princess at Heppner on
July 30.
The Ladies Aid society of Com
munity church met Wednesday,
June 15, at the church with Mrs.
Elvin Ely and Mrs.' Nate Macom
ber as hostesses. There were 15
present. The ladies voted to have
their next work day on July 30.
The next meeting will be July 6,
with Mrs. Florence Root and Mrs.
Rollin Bishop hostesses.
Mr. and Mrs. Walt Coomes and
Mrs. Mary Forthman went to
Ontario last week to visit at the
home of Mrs. Forthman's son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
William Forthman. Mrs. Forth
man will spend the summer,
while the Coomes' plan to look for
employment.
Mr. and Mrs. William Garner
went to Bend on Wednesday of
last week to take their children
Dick and Anita to visit at the
home of Garner's mother, Mrs.
Blanche Garner. Mr. and Mrs.
Garner returned home Thursday.
Jack Deacon, Union, was an
overnight visitor at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Forthman
one day last week.
Visitors last week at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hayes
were their daughter, Mrs. John
Baldino and daughter Gloria, of
Spokane, Wash., and their grand
daughter, Patty Beall, Eugene.
Weekend visitors were Mr. and

Methodist parsonage in Lewiston,
Idaho, Friday, June 17. Their
attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Thornhill, Boardman. The bride's
parents were also present The
couple will live at lone where the
groom is employed. The bride is a
1955 graduate of Boardman high
school.
Mrs. Bessie Nickerson, The Dal
les, is visiting this week at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Briggs.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kunze and
two children, Kennewick, Wash.,
were weekend visitors at the
home of Kunze's parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Ed Kunze.
Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Rash
moved to Portland during the
weekend, where Rash will be
emDloved. Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Thornhill have moved into the
house formerly occupied by the
Bash's.

son, who are employed in Port
land, spent the weekend at the
homes of their parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Zivney and Mr. and
Mrs .Ralph Ferguson.

to Heppner Saturday for medical
aid. Anna Erhardt accompanied
them, driving their car back.

electric stoves, refrigerators,
freezers etc., through Columbia
Power Cooperative Association.
Joe Whitaker left Monday morn
ing for Idaho where his son lives.
He is the father of Mrs. Mike
Hutchison and has been staying
with her for the post nine months.
Mrs. Bobbie Shamblin of Port
land was a Sunday guest at the
Matteson home.
Ellen 'Moore was a Sunday
guest at the home of her son and
family, Emery Moore. She re
turned home to Heppner Sunday
with Mrs. Shamblin who will g0
on to her home in Portland.
Maynard Hamilton is back
home from his work in Long
Creek.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lewis are
the parents of a baby girl born
Thursday morning at the Prine
ville hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Boyer and
sons spent the weekend at Salem
with his sister.
Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Hinton re
turned home from Portland for
the weekend. Her sister, Mrs.
Dorothy Shank of The Dalles is
taking care of the girls.
The C. R. Wards .have moved
their trailer house here and he
will work for McBrides when
logging starts. Mrs.. Ward's bro
