Individual farm allotments for
the 1956 wheat crop in Oregon
will probably be about the same
as in 1955, although the state's

The state agricultural stabili

sumer-fallow provision of 24,565
acres made a total for the 1955
crop of 831,455 acres. So far, there

NATIONAL JERSEY MEET
Heavy registration started last
Friday for the 87th national con
vention of the American Jersey
Cattle club being held in Salem.
This is the first time the club
has had a convention in the
Northwest. Registrations assure
that the attendance record, made
in Sacramento in 1949, will be
broken here.
Elaborate arrangements are
being carried out that have a
daily pattern: a senic caraven
trip to the coast, Silver Falls Park,
Oregon's Capitol and Salem's
environs, the Columbia River
Highway or Multnomah Falls;
one trip hooked up with an "All
Jersey", "Your Opportunity" or
big name ranch Jersey sale or
visit; unusual eat treats on all
trips, as Indian baked salmon, a
crab grab, smoked Oregon tur
key spread, strawberries and gen
uine Jersey cream.
The sales have nationally known
auctioneers doing their , stuff.
There are professional vaudevil
lians one act with 30 people
and imported speakers at the
banquets.
The Salem Cherrians led by
their King Bing William E. Healy,
are assisting in many host-position
activities.
"Oregon leads the nation in the
breeding of high-production Jer
sey cattle, which has brought
fame to Oregon both nationally
and internationally," Governor
Paul L. Patterson said is desig
nating Oregon Jersey Week, May
29 June 4.

law. The same allotment was in
effect for the 1955 crop of wheat.
State allotments are apportioned
on the basis of acreage seeded for
the production of wheat during
the preceding 10 years, with ad
justments for abnormal weather
and for trends in planting. County
allotments, are aportioned among
individual farms according to
past acreage of wheat, tillable
acres, crop rotation practices and
similar factors.
Once again there is to be a
referendum to give producers an
opportunity to either approve or
disapprove quotas on their 1956
crops. Any wheat producer in
commercial areas who will have
in excess of 15 acres of wheat for
harvest as grain in 1956 is eli
gible to vote in the referendum.
Date for the referendum is June
25.
