Contractors Start Road Oiling in Boardman Area

Babler Brothers, Portland con
tractors, started preparatory work
for oiling the project roads in the
east end Thursday of last week.
The county highway crew has
been grading the roads the past
weeks, hauling in rock for fills
and putting culverts where they
were needed.
Baccalaureate services for the
class of 1955 were held at the
Boardman Community church
Sunday at 8 p. m., with the Rev.

othy Taylor and Shirley Wiese.
Mrs. Joe Tatone entertained a
group of children at her home
last Saturday afternoon in honor
of her daughter Linda's fifth
birthday. She was assisted by
Betty Olmstead. Present were
Keith, Dennis, and Karen Gron
quist, Pete and Annette Phaneuf,
Cindy and Nancy Morlan, Don
nie Aardappel, Ronnie Olmstead,
Larry and Dewena West, Ray
Busenburg, Brenda Billings, Sha
ron and Terry Hawes, Dick 'and
Anita Garner, and Jody Tatone.
Also present were Connie and
Susan Poulsen, Westland. Prizes
were won by Brenda Billings and
Keith Gronquist.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Downey were
called to Stockton, Calif., Sunday
by the illness of Downey's father,
Earl Downey. Mrs. Kenneth Ear
wood and daughter Linda ac
companied them.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ziegler
and children, Portland, were
weekend visitors at the home of
Mr .and Mrs. Bud Phaneuf.
Mrs. John Partlow was hostess
for a shower in honor of Miss
Barbara Love, bride-elect of
David Cady, at her home last Fri
day evening. She was assisted
by Mrs. Donald Fair, Mrs. Harold
Baker, Mrs. Marion Morlan, Mrs.
Ronald Black, Mrs. Roy Partlow,
Mrs. Zoe Billings, Mrs. Sid Cloud,
Mrs. Bennie McCoy and Mrs. John
Blackburn. Prizes were won at
games by Mrs. Rollin Bishop,
Mrs. Elvin Ely and Mrs. Willard
Baker. There were 46 ladies pre
sent, among them the honoree's
mother, Mrs. Howard Love. New-
berg.
Mrs. Olive Mefford, Corvallis,
is visiting at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Florence Root.
Sunday visitors at the Root home
were Mr. and Mrs. Al Macomber,
Arlington and Mr. and Mrs. Max
Deweese, Grandview, Wash.
Greenfield grange met Satur
day night at the hall starting
with potluck supper at 6:30 p. m.
Hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Hayes and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil
Hamilton. Mrs. Joe Tatone was
elected as alternate delegate to
the state grange session. June 4
was selected as clean-up day at
the hall, starting at 9 a. m.
with a potluck dinner at noon.
During the lecturer's hour, Mrs.
Joe Tatone, lecturer, presented a
program honoring mothers. Cor
sages were presented to Mrs. Ed
Kunze, the oldest mother; Mrs.
Tatone, youngest mother; Mrs.
Nathan Thorpe, most children;
Mrs. Hugh Brown, gold star mo
ther; Mrs. Earl Briggs, most
grandchildren; and Mrs. Florence
Root, mother belonging grange
the longest time. Fathers will be
honored in a similar program at
a June meeting.
Grace Miller, student at EOCE
at La Grande, spent the weekend
at the home of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Russell Miller, and Wil-
ma Hug, student at Multnomah
School of the Bible, Portland, was
at the home of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Arnin Hug.
Weekend visitors at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Ferguson
were their son, Sid, from Newport
and their son and daughter-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Zun
ker and children, Kenne'wick,
Wash.
Mr. and Mrs. August Stermer,
Molalla, arrived at the home of
their son-in-law and daughter,
Mr. and Mrs. George Wiese, last
Friday to visit until after gradu
ation exercises are held.
Lt. and Mrs. John Blackburn
spent the weekend in Portland.
Larry Thorpe went to Union
over the weekend to visit his
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Smith. Mrs. Smith returned home
with him to visit this week.
Friday visitors at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Marlow were
Mrs. Marlow's father and brother
W. W. Hartle and Harold Hartle,
both of Pendleton.
Mr. and Mrs. Mario Reghltto
(Erma June Deulen), Portland,
stopped in Boardman Saturday
on their way to Hermiston to

fiscal year July 1, 1955 to June 30, 1956, as set forth in the accompanying schedules. All persons are hereby notified that on Thursday, the 30th day of June, 1955, at 10
A. M., in the County Judge's office at the Courthouse in Heppner Oregon, said budget estimates may be discussed with the County Court, the levying board for said
Morrow County Oregon, and any person subject to the proposed tax levy or tax levies will be heard in favor of or against said tax levy or tax levies or any part
thereof. '
The outstanding indebtedness of Morrow County, Oregon, on May 6, 1955, consisted of $2,500.00 in serial road bonds.

daughter Wilma, Madras, were
weekend guests at the home of
her sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Dillon.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Briggs have
returned home from a two weeks
trip to Hay Springs, Nebr., where
they visited at the home of Mr,
Briggs' brother and sister-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Briggs. While
there Mrs. Briggs attended a dis
trict garden club meeting at Al
liance, Nebr., and received a
prize for being the farthest from
home.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mulligan
and daughter Judy, Othello,
Wash., visited at the homes of
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Anderegg
and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Briggs
Sunday.
At the election of officers of
the Boardman Garden club last
week Mrs. Arthur-Allen was elect-1
ed vice president instead of Mrs.
Claud Coats as previously pub
lished. Will Adlard, Condon, is visiting
at the home of his son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold
Hoffman.
Mr. and Mrs. Zearl Gillespie and
Mrs. Margaret Klltz went to La
Grande last Friday where the
Gillespies visited their son, Don
ald, student at EOCE and Mrs. I
Klitz visited at the home of her
son and daughter-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Noel Klitz.
Harold and Darrell Marlow, ac
companied by Mr. and Mrs. D. L.
Ransier, Stanfield, went to Port
land Saturday. DeNeil, Dianne,
and Dcnise Ransier stayed at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mar
low while they were gone.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rands have
'returned irom a visit to central
'Oregon. At Redmond they visit
ed Mrs. Rands' brother and sister-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. A. Hiatt. at
