In a student body meeting, on
May 16, newly elected student
body officers took the oath of
office. Officers for the next year
are Darrell Blake, president; Del
bert Piper, vice president; Nancy
! Anderson, secretary; Darlene Con
nor, treasurer; Janet Wright, as
sistant treasurer; and Jay Sum
ner, sgt.-at-arms.
E. J. Dobbie, principal and ad
visor, installed the charter mem
bers of the National Honor Society
.May 16. Pins and membership
cards were given to the follow
ing: Seniors: Lyle Jensen, Sally
Palmer, Patsy Wright, Lillian
Elde, and Barbara Prock; Juniors:
Lance Tibbies, Nancy Anderson,
Darlene Connor, and Lynda Bor
man. Selection was based on
scholarship, character, leader
ship, and service.

Baccalaureate services will be
held May 21, 7 p. m. at the Metho
dist church. Following this, the
class will leave on their skip

Refreshments of sandwiches,
and coke were served. Entertain
ment was provided by the class.
Honored as King and Queen of
"Neptune's Court" at the junior-
senior prom for 1955 were Larry
Mollahan and Sharon Rill.

missed because of the Baccalaur
eate services which will be in the
Methodist church at 7:00 p. m.
The choir will practice at 7:30
p. m. on Thursday evening.

A- nice crowd turned out Mon
day evening for the graduation
program and dance. Seen among
the crowd was Mrs. Jessie Batty,
Mr. and Mrs. Vern Bell, Mrs. Gil
bert Batty of Heppner, Mr. and
Mrs. Luther Stafford and son Carl
Wayne of Prineville, Mr. and
Mrs. Lewis Batty and Linda of
La Grande.
Mr. and Mrs. Z. A. Harrison
of Eagle Creek, former residents
here, were in town over the week
end taking care of business and
visiting friends.
Lula Settle had the misfortune
to wreck her car on the Heppner
Spray road Friday afternoon
coming back from Heppner. Bill
Richards brought her on to Monu
ment and then to Pendleton to
the hospital. Her husband accom
panied her.
Among the Mbnument people
in Pendleton Saturday were Joe
Bulliet, Louise Kelly, Jessie Mat
teson and Judy Johnson.
Mrs. Ernest Johnson who has
been in Pendleton doctoring the
past two weeks was taken to
Heppner May 14 to visit her folks,
Mr. and Mrs. Nels Bailey.
Bob Strange drove to Izee May
9th to work for the summer.
Mrs. Katie Hinton of Hamilton,
was in town Friday evening on
business.
Esten Stevens was in town get
ting raedy to move to Happy Jack
for the summer where he will
work on the reserve.
Mrs. Olive Cox drove to Portland
Saturday morning for a few days.
Miss Floy Strange has moved
to the Hubert Asher home in
Spray.
Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Settle are
the parents of a daughter Linda
Gayle, born at Heppner May 9.
Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Settle of Monument and
George Gray of La Salle, Utah.
Maynard Hamilton is doing
some plumbing at Long Creek
this week.
Mrs. Bruce Strange of Unity
came over Friday evening to move
his wile and son Brucey to Unity
to live now that school is out.
Mr. and Mrs. John Erhardt,
two daughters and son left Sun
day for Portland where John is
to have some dental work done.
The different grades at school
had their picnics last week. The
high school is to have theirs at
Ritter. Report cards to be handed
out Tuesday.
Delmer Settle who moved his
family to Long Creek two weeks
ago, went to Heppner Sunday
after his wife and new daughter,
He went through Pendleton to
see his mother who is in the hos
pital and then on to Long Creek
where his sister, Moya Gilman
met turn with his two other child
ren. Jessie Matteson will work
for the Settles for two weeks.
Bill Settle called the wrecker
from Pendleton to go after his
car at Spray.
Thelma Williams returned to
'John Day Friday for a checkup.
1 Guests at the Dick Williams
home last weekend where his
stepfather, Arthur Raine and son
Frank who Is in the navy and a
sister, Mrs. Ida Belle Fluharty,
who stayed to visit. The men left
after visiting two days.
Icel Dunn of Pasco, Wash., was
in town to appoint a new sales
man for Avon Products. Doris
Kingman will replace Nona
Strange.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Kingman re
turned home Sunday night from
Chelan, Wash., where they visit-
Fred Hoskins, Jr. has been ill
at his home with the flu but is
reported improved.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Talbett and
children moved to Hermiston on
Friday, to make their home on
one of Orvie Conboy ranches. ,
Mr. George McLaughlin and
son Clarno, came up from Port
land for a few days. Mrs. Mc
Laughlin's condition is very un
satisfactory at this time, and is
at the Wallway Nursing Home in
Portland where she is being cared
for.
Mrs. Alcy Madden made a trip
to Condon", Friday, for medical
attention. Other callers on that
day were Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Perry, Mrs. Guy Huddleston, Les
ter Wick, James Campbell, Mr.
and Mrs. Loel Jacobson, Mrs. Pete
Haynes, Mrs. Frank Hueman and
Susan.
Mr. Delbert Edwards and son
Dale, of Condon, jnade a trip to
their ranch out of Lone Rock,
Friday and Saturday.
