Oregon for Wasco County, Ore
gon, on the 7th day of February,
1955, in a cause therein pending
wherein Kate A. Grending was
plaintiff and F. G. Smith and
Evalyn Hester Smith were de
fendants, in which said order and
judgment it was ordered and ad
judged by the Court that the
plaintiff have and recover of and
from the defendants F. G. Smith
and Evalyn Hester Smith the sum
of $2,928.84, together with interest
thereon at the rate of 6 per
annum.from the 19th day 'of June,
1954, until paid, the further sum
of $450.00 attorneys' fees, be
sides plaintiff's costs and dis
bursements taxed and allowed at
the sum of $30.28, and in which
said order and judgment it was
ordered and adjudged that the

Council of the City of Heppner
will on Monday, March the 7th at
the hour of 8:00 o'clock P. M. of
said day receive at the Council
Chambers in said City, sealed

1 (one) Utility model wheel
tractor of 2o to 25 HP rating hav
ing a two cylinder gasoline en
gine. The tractor shall be equip
ped with the following: 12 x 26
tires on rear wheels, 600 x 16 tires
on front wheels. Oil pressure an
water temperature gauges. Elec
tric starting system on engine.
Hydraulic operated three point
hitch and with an independently
mounted swinging drawbar.
Tractor shall be equipped with
fenders, and provisions for ASAE.
SAE standard and high speed
power takeoffs and with a stub
power takeoff shaft.
1 (one) Heavy duty hydraulic
tractor shovel, mounted on above
tractor, with following specifica
tions. Shovel shall weigh 1250
lbs. minimum, having a constant
running front mounted hydraulic
pump, with oil reservoir integral
with shovel frame. Lift cylinders
shall be double acting. The ma
terial bucket and back fill blade
to be furnished as equipment
shall be hydraulically operated.
The bucket shall have a mini
mum dumped clearance of not
less than 8 feet. The mounted
shovel shall have an overall
height when mounted, of not over
five feet, and all wear points
shall have replaceable pins and
bushings, the pins to be at least
one and one-half inches in diameter.

Herbert Hoover has been invit
ed by unanimous vote of the
Oregon Legislature to spend his
81st birthday at his boyhood
home at Newberg, Oregon. The
former president's birthday is
August 10 when the the restored
Herbert Hoover home and Herbert
Hoover Park will be dedicated.
His uncle, Dr. H. J. Minthorn, with
whom the young orphan Hoover
lived, moved to Newberg, Oregon,
in 1884 but soon moved to Salem.
An effort to restore the Herbert
Hoover home in Salem has been
discussed. Burt Brown Barker,
who has accomplished much in
preserving and furnishing the
Oregon shrines, led the movement
in securing, refurbishing and
furnishing the Herbert Hoover
Home at Newberg.

In the first weeks of this legis
lative session the Democrats had
the majority control of the 1957
legislature in the bag and didn't
know it.
When the controlling Republi
cans began legislation that would
take from the voters the right
to elect certain state officials and
gave the governor the power to
appoint them That was the
golden hour of silence for the
Bourborns. Instead they at
tempted to retaliate by playing
ante-over tossing in bills to
make certain appointive officials
elective.
Had the Democrats let the Re
publicans go ahead and take
away the rights of the voters and
give Gov. Patterson more ap
pointive powers there would have
been a glaring target of guberna-
