million Capitol built in 1937-8
and ciowded the day occupied,

speaker. Geary's campaign was
revived when Baum was defeat
ed for reelection to the house.
Former Senator Guy Cordon
has announced plans to open a
law office in Washington "on the
hill", a consulting counsel for
Oregon clients who deal with the
Federal Government.

years took a big tumble last

Figures Show Low
Rainfall During 1954
The Weather Modification
Company closed its office in Con
don on December 31. for the win
ter season. The office will be
opened again on March 1, or
April 1, 1955 when directed by the
Tri-County Weather Research
Inc., it was revealed this week.
This year eastern Oregon has
experienced a very dry fall and
only during the month of Decem
ber has any section of the eastern
portion of the state received near
normal amounts of rain. Due to
the scarcity and weakness of
storms, seeding operations were
limited during October and No
vember. However, in December
seeding was done on the 5, 6, 12,
13, 15, 29, 30 concentrating on the
driest areas. The few rainfall
State Police the drop was 33 per
cent of the previous month's fig
ures. The 100 anested paid fines
totaling $15,972, a drop of 20 per
cent.
The report also shows 1298 ar
rests made for violation of rules
of the road and reckless driving.
Convictions in this category
brought fines aggregating $10,612.
BLUE BOOK DUE
Oregon's 1955 Blue Book is now
in the final stages of printing,
with the first books scheduled to
be distributed to members of the
legislature late in January. The
new state information book will
be streamlined with a total of
about 375 pages, compared to last
year's 450, but the same format
will be followed. This will be the
first Blue Book issued by Secre
tary Earl T. Newbry under the
1953 law changing date of pub
lication. Distribution of the
Blue Book to the public will not
come until sometime in Febru

fall percentage is much larger
