New IV Station Gives Boardman Good Reception

Television has come to this
community. With the comple
tion of the satellite station on top
of Johnson's Butte last Thursday
the first reception was received
by George Wiese at the Boardman
Supply Friday around noon. Al
though it was a little hazy at
first it had cleared up a lot by
Saturday, and the Rose Bowl foot,
ball game came in good.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Briggs in the
west end also have a set, and
they stated their reception was
also good.
The business firms of the com
munitv sponsored a New Year's
Eve party and dance for the air
force personnel and their families
at the grange hall Friday night.
Hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ta
tone, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hayes,
Mr. and Mrs. Bud Phaneuf, Mr.
and Mrs. Dewey West, Mr. and
Mrs. Arthur Allen, Mr. and Mrs.
George Wiese, Mrs. Mabel and
Mrs. Maxine Crowder. Also In
cluded as hosts were Mr. and Mrs.
R. B. Rands.
County judge Garnet Barratt,
commissioners Ralph Thompson
and Russell Miller were in this
end of the county Friday to view1
the prospective road connecting
highway 3n to the Paterson ferry
junction on highway 730. Judge
Barratt staled that grading was
to start on the road Monday, Jan.

A New Year's Eve watch service
was held at the Community
church Friday night from nine
to twelve. During the evening
Warren McCoy, Irrigon showed a
movie, "The Power of God." Rus
sell Miller and Miss Jean Scott
sang a duet, "He Bought My Soul
on Calvary", and Jack Landers
sang "The Old Rugged Cross." At
31 p. m. refreshments were served
in the basement of the church.
Betty Olmstead had a tonsil
lectomy at Good Shepherd hospi
tal in Hermiston last Thursday,
returning home Friday.
Weekend visitors at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Briggs were
their son and daughter-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. William Maxwell
and children, Billie and Sandra,
Portland.
Mr .and Mrs John Walker and
son Dick, Pendletonwere week
end guests at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Dewey West.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Turner
and daughter Gay, Philomath,
visited at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Ronald Black last week.
Alton Klitz, Oakland, Calif.,
visited at the home of his mother
Mrs. Margaret Klitz, during the
holidays, and took her to La
Grande to visit at the home of
his brother and sister-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Noel Klitz.
Mrs. Floience Root spent part
of the holidays at the home of her
son and daughter in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Vernon Root, at Athena. Her
mother, Mrs. Olive Mefford, went
to Ailington to visit at the home j
of her son-in-law ano: naugnter,
Mr. and Mrs. Al Macomber.
Mrs. Lowell Shattuck, who is
employed in the hospital at Gold,
endale, Wash., was here at her
home Friday night and Saturday
with her son, Douglas. Martin
Shattuck, who spent the week
visiting his mother at Goldendale
returned home with her.
Mr. and Mrs. Elin Ely spent
the weekend in La Grande at the
home of their son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon
Lilly. Eileen Ely, who spent last
week in La Grande, returned
home with them.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Potts and
daughters Marie and Irene went
to The Dalles New Year'sDay to
visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
George Ramsey. Potts and Mrs.
Ramsey are cousins. They also
visited his aunt, Mrs. Lulu Potts.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Partlow
and children Judy, Allen and
Jerry, The Dalles, were weekend
visitors at the home of Partlow's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Part-low.

Holiday visitors at the home of

returned home with Mr. and Mrs.
Moe to spend a week. Mr. and
Mrs. Guy Ferguson also spent
two days at Kennewiek, Wash.,
visiting their son and daughter-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs". Stanley
Zunker.
Mrs. Louine Earwood was
called to the home of her son-in-law
and daughter, Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Califf, in Amarillo, Texas,
last week, due to the illness of
her grandson, Stevie Califf, who
is in the hospital there.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thornhill
spent the weekend in Junction
City visiting at the homes of his
brothers and sisters-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Gene Thornhill and Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Thornhill.
Sgt. and Mrs. Donald Fair and
son have returned home after two
weeks visit in New berg.
New Year's visitors at the home
of Mr and Mrs. Ed Kunze were all
their children, which is the first
time they have all been home at
once for many years. Pi?sent were

At this time the Thespians held
their meeting with the election of
officers; with Delpha . Jones
named chairman and Mrs. O. W.
Cutsforth as Sec.-Treas. They are
starting practice on the play
"Grandpa's Twin Sister" which
will be given in February at the
school house.
