Has Installation
At Troedson Home
An impressive eandlelieht in-
stallation ceremony was held for
the officers of the Manarathas at
a meeting Wednesday at the
home of Mrs. Verner Troedson.
Mrs. E. M. Baker was the in
stalling officer and was assisted
by Mrs. Wallace Matthews. Mrs.
Bakor told of the work of the
club which was organized about
ten years ago for the purpose of
aiding tne Community church,

jects of the club besides helping
the church are the annual Mother-Daughter
banquet or tea, serv
ing breakfast at Easter and serv
ing a lunch to families at fune-
rals.
Those installed were Mrs. Mil

ion Palmer, vice president; Mrs.
Garry Tullis, secretary-treasurer.
Mrs. Morgan gave out the year
books and chose the following
committees: fancy work, Mrs.
Noel Dobyns, Mrs. Grace Ware
and Mrs. Dale Ray; cards, Mrs.
Echo Palmateer; relief, Mrs. Wal.
lace Matthews; membership, Mrs.
Palmer and Mrs. Berl Akers;
flowers for the church. Mrs.
Troedson, Mrs. Omar Rietmann
and Mrs. O. L. Lundell; aprons,
Mrs. Ida Coleman, Mrs. Harvey
Ring and Mrs. Morgan.
Mis. Alfred Shirley assisted Mrs.
Troedson with the refreshments.

Meets at Warners
The Lexington Garden club met
Nov. 9 in the home of Cora War
ner. The meeting was called to or
der by the president, Maxine Cox
with the following members pre

Faye Munkers, Cleo Van Winkle,
Edith Miller, Millie Evans, Nellie
Johnson, Edna Wetzel, Frances

Leila Palmer, Lee Wagonblast,
Cora Warner, Ina Nichols and
Bertha Dinges.
It was decided to send a $10.00
Care package to Korea.
The December meeting will be
at Edith Miller's home with a
gift exchange.

Lodge Convention
Held in Heppner
The district convention of the
Degree of Honor was held in
Heppner October 26 with dele
gates from The Dalles, John Day,
Pendleton, Baker and Portland
attending.
After a luncheon served at noon
in the Oddfellows hall, the af
ternoon session was opened by
president Theta Stratton with an
address of welcome. J. O. Turner
also welcomed he convention on
behalf of the city.
The following National and
State officers were introduced,
Mrs. Clara B. Gertson, national
committeewoman and state di
rector; Mrs. Irene Scott, John
Day, state president; Mrs. Anna
Speckerman, The Dalles, state
vice president; Mrs. Myrtle An
derson, Portland, state secretary;
Mrs. Blanche Buckley, Portland,
past state president.
At the close of the afternoon
the Junior Degree of Honor gave
a demonstration of their ritualis
tic work.
A banquet was held in the
evening at the Christian church,
the tables being decorated with
Morrow County wheat and at
each place a corsage of wheat
tied with fall colored ribbons.
During the banquet, Sandra Jones
gave a reading, Carolyn McDan
iel played several piano selec
tions and Jay Stratton gave a
reading.
Initiation by the John Day
lodge was held at the evening
session, with seven candidates
being initiated. A program of
drill teams from the various lod
ges, addresses from the visiting
officers, a vocal solo by Mrs. Fred
Hoskins, Jr. accompanied a tab
leau. Twenty five year pins were
presented to several members.
The Heppner Square Dance
club entertained with a few num
bers after which gifts were given
the visiting officers.
A coffee hour was held at the
close of the meeting.

Honored By Lodge
The Degree of Honor met for
past president's night November
9.
As the past presidents were re
cognized, each told of interesting
incidents which took place during
her term of office.
Members voted to dispense
with the annual Thanksgiving
dinner this year because of the
recent convention held here.
Following the meeting, Mary
Ann Jensen and Marilyn Berg
strom were in charge of the en
tertainment. Games were played j
and prizes awarded to the win
ners. Refreshments were served by
the hostesses Theta Stratton and
Genevieve Springer

Ray Drake on 40th
Wedding Anniversary
Sunday afternoon November 7,
the Valby Lutheran church So
ciety honored Mr. and Mrs. Ray
Drake of Heppner, on their 40th
wedding anniversary, which will
be Thanksgiving day.
Following the regular meeting
of the society, a reception was
held in Valby hall at which time
Cheryle Lundell sang "I Love
You Truly" accompanied by Ka
ren Lundell. Mrs. Paul Petty
john sang "The Prayer Perfect"
accompanied by Mrs. Cleo Drake.
Mrs. Paul Warren cut the anni
versary cake; Mrs. Lee Scrivner
and Mrs. Douglas Drake poured.

rated the hall where over 60
guests were present.

When Mary Harshman moved
to Walla Walla we elected Brenda
Townsend to replace her as vice
president and on committees.
We voted to meet at our lead
er's house and to prepare a box
of home-made candy for Joe Sny
der who made our beautiful
tooled leather C. E. emblems last
spring. We delivered in Oct. 23.
We voted to take part in the
national Camp Fire project, "Af
ghans for Korea"1 and the com
munity project, "Quilts for the
Needy". Mr. Penland gave us a
good spot in the paper for our
message to the people and we
wish to thank him, as well as the
two people in the community who
responded by giving us quilt
pieces. We are carrying the pro
ject through November hoping to
get more response. This not only
helps unfortunate people, but
helps us earn our requirements
for Wood Gatherers rank and Fire
Makers rank as well as adding
hours to our service record.
At present we are planning to
do No. 7 in our Fire Makers rank,
this is a dinner which we prepare
and serve.
