menace to life and property on
account of an excessive amount
of inflammable debris on the
ground, and

shall be subject to entry only
through permit to be issued by
the State Forester, or a fire war

Rate Holds Yields
Wheat farmers in Columbia
Basin low-rainfall areas can save
money with light seeding rates
and still maintain yields, accord
ing to trials at the Sherman
branch experiment station at
Mora.
Winter wheat seeding rates of
30 pounds per acre yielded Just as
high as 90-pound rates in two
year trials. The tests also in
cluded rates of 45, 60 and 75
pounds with all seedings yielding
between 34 to 36 bushels per acre
for the two-year average.
Date of seeding is more im
portant, says William Hall, act
ing superintendent. Seeding made
October 1 and 15 showed signifi
cant yield Increases in the 1953
harvest over seedings of Septem
ber 1 and 15 and November 1.
