Monument Girls Organize New 4-H Canning Club

home. This is to be a canning
club and they chose the name
"Treasure Fruit Hunters." They
chose the following officers;
Judy Stirewalt, president; Laura
Lee Bleakman, vice president;
Mirinda Musgrave, secretary;
Kay Swifk, news reporter; Caro
lyn Martin and Theo May Van
delta, cheer leaders. Those pre
sent at the meeting were: Gwen
and Theo May Vandetta, Mirinda
Musgrave, Kuth and Carol Schone
berger, Kay Swick and Laura Lee
Bleakman.
The next meeting will be held
"July 8th when Wanda Phipps,
Home Agent, holds her meeting
on "Freezing" in the Grange hall
at 1:30 p. m.
Emory Moore was a business
visitor in Arlington last Tuesday,
June 22nd.
Mrs. Stella Reynolds and Ver

couple are well known in Monu
ment and their many friends
wish them a long and happy wed
ded life. Mis. McCarthy's sister,

Charles Roach also had bad
luck Thursday, when his tractor
caught on fire while he was work
ing in the field. He was able to
extinguish the fire by throwing
dirt on it. . He dodn't know ex
actly how badly it was damaged,
but the wiring was all burned off
and one tire was badly blistered.
They loaded it on Roy Cork's
truck and took it to John Day for
repairs.
Mr. and Mrs Lynn Forrest had
two of Mr. Forrest's sisters and
one niece as their guests last Sun
day. They were Mrs. Eva West
fall of McMinnville, Mrs. Jose
phine Harrison, of Kinzua, and
Miss Kay Jones of Unionville.
Miss Jones Is Mr. Forrest's sis
ter Irma's daughter.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Forrest and
daughter drove to Roseburg last
Friday to visit Mr. and Mrs.
Junior Simas and children. They
also visited Mr. and Mrs. Marvin
Devore and Mrs. Jane Devore,
Sheriff Bauman, wife and son
and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Snyder of
Heppner, stopped in for a short
visit with Mr. Bauman's sister,
Helen Brown. The party was
just returning to Heppner from a
trip into Idaho.
Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Crum are
back on the Monument Lookout
for the summer.
Last Thursday eleven geese
and seven goslings landed at the
home of Ouida Cork for early
morning cookies and coffee. They
tried to settle at the homes of
Doris Capon and Janice Cork but
both were away from home.

A pink and blue shower was
given in honor of Mrs. Robert
Hoskins in the basement of the
Community church June 26. She
received many lovely gifts. Mrs.
Howard Adams and Mrs. Harold
Snider assisted with the gifts.
Other hostesses were Mrs. Tad
Miller, Mrs. A. A. Stefani, Mrs.
Donald Peterson and Mrs. George
Griffith. Refreshments were ser
ved from a table with a center
piece of blue and pink flowers
and blue candles. Mrs. Fred Hos
kins Sr., and Mrs. Hugh Salter
poured.

Oregon and Mrs. Janet Graun, the
grand chaplain Mrs. Rietmann
went on to Park Place where she
attended a school reunion in the
aid school building there. It was
an all day meeting with pot luck
dinner. There were 35 present
from the year 1898 and up.
Mrs. Elizabeth Jordan of Port
land and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rei
senwebber of Pasco were visitors
at the T. N. White home last
week.
Mrs. Larry Fletcher and child
ren of Portland are visiting her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey
Ring.

Cork. There were seven children.
The next meeting will be at Joava
Enright. This will probably be
the last meeting for the summer

to Heppner Thursday, where Mr.
Jewell entered the hospital for a
