Social Happenings
100 Attend Piano
Recital Sunday
Approximately 100 persons were
' in attendance at the piano recital
presented by the students of Mrs.
D. E. Hudson Sunday afternoon at
the Methodist church.
Three special numbers were
presented during the afternoon,
those being a piano duet by Ade
lia and Nancy Anderson; piano
trio, Adelia, Nancy and Carol
Anderson; and a double vocal
trio consisting of Shirley Peck,
Donna Hudson, Sharon Becket,
Lillian Elde, JayDee Hudson and
Jay Sumner accompanied by
Marilyn Munkers.
Students participating in the
recital were Adelia, Nancy and
Carol Anderson, Judy and Janet
Thompson, Sandra Jones, Omer
Houston, Shirley Nash, Marilyn
and Marie Pettyjohn, Shirley
Gaines, Sandra Harshman, Fern
Albert, Brenda Townsend,' Janice
Driscoll, Carolyn McDaniels, Sha
ron Becket, Florence Elde and
Sally Palmer.
Following the program refresh
ments were served.
Pvt. Norman H. Ruhl of Ft.
Lewis, Washington, visited his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Ruhl
of Lexington last weekend.
: Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Loney of
Walla Walla, a sister of Mrs.
Frank E. Parker, visited with the
Parkers last weekend.
Mothers Club Meets
At Fulleton Home
The Young Mothers Club held
their regular meeting Monday
night at the home of Mrs. Roice
Fulleton.
Following the business meet
ing Mrs. Charles Ruggles showed
a film on Oregon wildflowers.
Members present were Mrs.
Riley Munkers, Mrs. William
Heath, Mrs. Kenneth Keeling,
Mrs. Douglas Drake, Mrs. Willard
Warren, Mrs. Clem Stockard, Mrs.
Robert Walker, Mrs. Doris Peter
son and Mrs. Louis Wetzel.
Invited , guests were Mrs. Rug
gles, Mrs. Al Fetch and Mrs. Ed
ward Walker.

Lena Extension Unit
Meets at Brosnan's
Mrs. John Brosnan was hostess
to the Lena Extension Unit which
met at her home on Butter Creek
Thursday, April 29.
Mrs. Maud Casswell demon
strated the use of freezing con
tainers. It was announced that Mrs.
Earl Blake, Mrs. E. W. Hughes
and Mrs. Randall Martin will be
in charge of the candle display
at the Homemakers Festival.
The next meeting will be an
all day meeting May 20 at the
home of Mrs. Earl Blake. The
subject for demonstration and
discussion will be dry cleaning.
Legion Auxiliary
Sees Cancer Films
A Cancer film preview was"
sponsored by the American Le
gion Auxiliary at their regular
business meeting Tuesday night
at the Legion hall. Representa
tives of different organizations
throughout Heppner were invited
to witness the preview and choose
the film they would like to have
shown to their respective organi
zation. Following the showing of the
films the auxiliary held their
business meeting during which
time plans were made for the
Poppy Sale to be held Friday and
Saturday May 28 and 29. Mrs.
LeRoy Gardner is general chair
man for the sale.
It was announced that the
group had been asked to serve
the dinner for the district 6, 40
& 8 honorary group May 11.
Following the meeting refresh
ments were served by hostesses
Mrs. Alex Thompson and Mrs.
James Farley.

Following the dinner bridge
was played and Wilson received
high for the men and Mrs. Dick
high for the women.

Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Hayes enter
tained at their home Sunday af
ternoon with a turkey dinner for
their son Jim, and his classmates.

Miss Marie Soward
Miss Marie Soward, the daugh
ter of Rev. and Mrs. Earl 1.. So
ward will return to Heppner early
in June from her residence in
Southern California, .to make
plans for her wedding here on
June 11 to Vernon Greenlmkh of
Whittier Calif. He is a Chnsiian
minister.
Miss Soward's oldest brother.
Marvin L. Soward. who is major
ing in voice at the University of
Texas will arrive in time for the
wedding and will sing at the
service. He is the outstanding
tenor at the University of Texas
and has taken a leading roll in
major cantattas during the cur
rent school year. He is a 'so
planning on giving a conceit
while in Heppner.

At Star Theater
A sack lunch was enjoyed at
the Star Theater by the Soropti
mist club on Thursday April 2!.
Mrs. W. O. George told the club
of some of the interesting facts
theater business and
club was shown four
short movies, one on India, one
about the women in the armed
forces, the Piano Concerto in B
Flat Minor and two comedies.
The next meeting is the month
ly business meeting.

Played at Club
Six tables of pinochle and
bridge were in play Saturday
afternoon at a meeting of the O.
E. S. Social Club in the Masonic
hall.
Hostesses for the afternoon
were Mrs. Edna Turner and Mrs.
Mildred Hoborg.
Mrs. Grace Nickerson received
high score for bridge player and
Mrs. Earl Evans won high in pin
ochle. Mrs. Ed La Trace receiv ed
the door prize.
