n KJoen Letter
To The Citizens and Voters of Morrow County
A
In announcing myself for re-election
to the office of Morrow County Judge, I
do so with a firm and sincere conviction
that I have kept the pledge made to the
citizens of Morrow County when I first
sought the office of county judge six
years ago. At that time I had a secret
desire to prove to the people that the
office was an important one in the
county and a full time position if one
was to give "value received" service. I
pledged to; Make every effort to uphold
my oath of office. Assume a leadership
in Morrow County affairs that would
promote a unification of all of Morrow
County. Sponsor a planned program of
road construction, maintenance and fi
nancing. Approach with human under
standing the problems of old age assist
ance, juvenile, public health, probate
and public relations. To encourage a
fair and equitable tax program. To be
most careful with expenditures but not
to follow a "penny wise and pound fool
ish method". To live in the county seat
and be available at all reasonable times.
Five years and four months later I am
convinced that the office of Morrow
County Judge is a most important one
and that one must be alert at all times
in coping with the problems beneficial
to the county.
THE RECORDS OF MY TERM ARE AVAILABLE TO ALL
Although certain individuals have
condemned me personally for condi
tions, both good and bad, without re
gard for true facts, or taking the effort
toget the true facts, which are available
in the records at the courthouse, I have
found that without the unselfish efforts
of Commissioners Ralph Thompson and
Russell Miller, who have contributed
many days of time and energy in plan
ning and promoting policies and pro
grams beneficial to all of the county,
that we could not have accomplished
those objectives of most interest to all
the people. Although we have complet
ed many projects in which we have a just
pride, the score is not perfect, nor has it
pleased everyone. We do, however, hon
estly believe that we have endeavored
bv word and action and, at the least pos
sible expense, to carry out the dictates
BASE YOUR DECISION ON THE FACTS
of the taxpayers and citizens of Morrow
County. We have made many efforts
to keep before the public all matters of
a public interest. Every transection is
of public record and is available in the
files at the courthouse. I am personally
willing to defend our actions or intents
in the great majority and to acknow
ledge those errors with the humility of
any normal human being. Our disap
pointment is in the apathy of the public
toward local problems with which we are
confronted each day. We naturally as
sume that people are satisfied when we
do not get their reactions. In five years
time one person has appeared before the
court at a budget hearing, in spite of our
constant efforts to qet the public inter
ested. I n support of these contentions I
would be most pleased to subhit further
evidence and proof.
Because of widespread rumors and
malicious statements, Dredicated upon
selfish purposes, lack of knowledge and
personal persecution I herewith public
ally submit for your consideration my
complete denial of all the alleged
wrongs and request that before vou
completely make up your mind if I am a
proper person to continue in the office
of countv judge of Morrw County that
you get the facts. I have no fear of the
ultimate decision of a well informed per
son. Let us base our decision on facts
and not fiction. The Morrow County
Court has attempted to manage your af
fairs upon this formula and find that it
pays dividends when properly applied.
If you believe I am qualified to con
tinue as a member of the Morrow
County Court and assist in completing
the programs and policies begun by this
court and to further administer the af
fairs of the countv within a budget ap
proved by the people and their ability to
pay, a vote for me at the Mav 21, 1954
election would be appreciated.
Sincerely and respectfully submitted
Garnet Barratt
