First Wedding Performed in New Monument Church

The first wedding to be held in
the now Presbyterian church by
Rev. Paul Kimmel was that of
Julia Ann (Dickson Wheeler and
Luther C. Stafford of Prineville.
Nadine Wheeler, mother of the
bride was the matron of honor
'and James C. Stafford, brother of
the groom acted as best man. The
bride was given in marriage by
her father, Everett Wheeler. Mrs.
James C. Stafford and baby were
also present. The bride attended
the Monument high school and
has many friends In this area.
The young couple will make
their home in Prineville.
Mrs. George Capon has been
quite ill with a virus infection.
She was taken to the John Day
Medical Center for medical aid
last Monday. It was necessary
for her to remain in the hos
pital for several days. On Wed
nesday Mr. Capon and daughter,
Mrs. Lois Hill visited her. She
returned home last Friday.
Mrs. Rota King moved from the
ranch to her home in Monument
last Thursday. Duo to the cold
weather earlier in the week, she
found the water pipes fro.on.
Harry Capon was a business
visitor in John Day last Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cork were
hosts to the choir practice last
Thursday. Next week the meet
ing will bo at the home of liev.

January 18th, Mr. "and Mrs.
Rho filoakman attended the
Rural School Board meeting in
the eounrt house at Canyon City.
All district school members were
invited lo attend the liudget
meeting.
Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Beardsley
were attending to matters of
business in John Day January 18.
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Round
were attending to matters of
business in Portland last week.
Their sons, Ronnie and Donnie
were guests of their grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Round. Mr. and
Mrs. Round returned home Mon
day. They reported lots of snow
and very slick roads.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hooker
and daughters Ramona and Caro
line and Mrs. Paul Kimmel and
son Totcr, spent last Sunday in
Heppner. Caroline, who has had
pneumonia went for a medical
checkup, so she could enter the
school Monday. Peter also had a
medical checkup.
Otis Stubblefield has been
rjuite ill at his home this week.
His brother, Orin of Portland has
been with him also, Ike Shank
and Dorsey Hardy of John Day.
They loft for their homes in John
Day on Friday. Mr. Stubblefield
is feeling some better.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Martin, at
the Guard Station, had friends
from Salem to spend the week,
end with them.
The Sunday school teachers of
the Presbyterian Church held a
mooting last Monday. Rev, Paul
Kimmel showed a film strip that
was enjoyed by all present.' It
was decided to hold the teacher
meetings every two weeks.
Mrs. Chloe Page states that heriso many colds and several cases

sister, Mrs. Rachel Griffin at
Kimberly. Mrs. Griffin was re
leased from the rest home at Mt.
Vernon Springs at Christmas
time.
Monument high school basket
ball and volleyball teams play
the Mt. Vernon teams at Mt. Ver
non last Friday night. The girls
won their volleyball game but
both first and second basketball
teams were defeated. Saturday
night they played Dayville, but
the score was not available at
this writing.
Grandma Capon is spending
several days as a guest of Wave
Jackson, due to the illness of her
daughter-in-law, Mrs. Doris
Capon.
The 4 -II Busy Bakers held their
first meeting January 20th at the
home of Mrs. Naomi Hooker.
Karie Hooper and Nestle Davis
were the loaders. Officers were
elected: Caroline Martin, was
chosen for president; Harold Rey.

time they held an election of
